Not that high on Gordon, but he fited one need. Now we lost our TPE and if another trade has to come we have or to give an important piece or sell a guy on negative value in Thompson. Really hope something good still come, if not I don't understand the use of TPE. Especially if Fournier leave or take too much money it will be too much bad choices from Ainge. He said no urge to use TPE and he won't do on expiring. He says we need a 4 and take a 2. I don't get it. Something else has to come... Or Ainge has to deal with a massive fail.
I like Fournier, of course, he could be a very good 6th men on a contending team. But just with this trade it doesn't solve our problems of the stretch 4/3 who replace Tatum at 3 and Brown at 2. Our team is already weak defensively it won't go better. Philly add Lowrie, probably Nets ill add something in buyout...

Is that a better deal than Smart, Langford(or)Nesmith and Boston 1st?

Smart, Nesmith, + First is a much better deal but that is way more than I would ever expect Danny to give up for what, a top 20 PF in the league?

Denver made a strong offer.  Good for them.  Makes more sense for them to stretch a little for Gordon than is does for us.

Let's see if any other shoes drop.  Fournier is a nice pick up if we are able to extend/resign him.

Point is Cs do not have a PF.

Starting to look like the Celtics' reluctance to part with Smart, at least for Gordon, may have been a deakl-breaker.

The Orlando Magic are progressing on a trade to send Aaron Gordon to the Denver Nuggets, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium.

Frankly if Smart was the hold-up then I don't blame Danny for hanging up.  Smart is a better asset than any of those pieces from Denver... and I say that as a guy who has not liked Smart's play this year.  Dropping Smart along with Nesmith and a pick would have been a substantial overpay, compared to what Gordon actually fetched.

The bigger point is Danny’s reputation is killing deals. There is no use for a GM that cannot close deals because other GMs are afraid of dealing with him. Time for Danny to retire.
^^^ What happens is that Danny OVERVALUES his own assets and undervalues other assets. He probably was close to a AG and Fournier deal but wanted to 'WIN" the trade so in the end he "LOST"!

I'm quietly relieved.  I would have been fine with C's getting AG as a stop-gap move (which I define as any move that does not push this team into championship contention) so long as Smart was not involved.  Fournier is the cheaper move with a similar outcome: Stop-gap move to keep the team interesting through the rest of this season

If this is true, it's simply a matter of lack of competence in the "other GMs", not DA's fault that he is smarter.

That’s a championship level team right there. I’d definitely be happy for the Nuggets if they won this season. They are always looking to compete and never look to tank, much like Utah.

Is this the tallest starting lineup in the NBA?

Jokic (6'11'')
Gordon (6'8'')
Porter Jr. (6'10'')
Barton (6'6'')
Murray (6'3'')

I really like the fit of Gordon next to Jokic. Imo, they have the second best frontcourt in the NBA behind only the Lakers.

Wish we did more this deadline but I’m happy we didn’t overpay for Gordon during a lost season.
The guy is beyond overrated

Yes a lot of solid teams being put together around the league.

I'm still not sure why Orlando favored this trade tbh.  Harris hasn't been good for almost three seasons now.  Hampton is whatever.  The pick will be a late one.

Not even talking about us right now... I'm surprised that nobody else around the NBA was willing to beat this offer.  I'm not high on Gordon really but I did think he was worth more than a platter of meh.

Agree with everything you say. I do not understand how this trade package did not get beat. A mediocre first, a so-so prospect and a disappointing cap eater of a player. Ainge could easily have beaten that if he wished as could many other teams.

Like you, I am not that high on Gordon but he does have some talent & room for improvement. I am surprised he did not fetch more than this. And I am surprised Ainge did not go after him when he was available at such a low price.

Me too. I am delighted for Denver. Aaron Gordon is a great fit next to Jokic. A better fit for him than here in Boston.

I am really excited to see that team play.
