What do you guys think will happen? Are we sellers or buyers? Will we use the TPE? Will we even make a trade at all?

I'll go first.

I believe Danny will try to dump some salary with a view to using the full TPE during the offseason. As things stand right now, I don't think we can realistically expect to use the full TPE. The luxury tax would explode through the roof in 2021/22. Assuming we wanna dump salary, the obvious choices are Kemba and Thompson (maybe Theis as well?). Not sure whether it's possible to trade Kemba without sacrificing a future asset. Imo, he probably has negative trade value. If we can't find the right deal, I'd just keep him.

Here's an idea, just for fun. According to rumors, we are interested in both Barnes and Bjelica. This might be a realistic deal for all 3 teams involved.

Why for the Magic:
According to Chris Mannix, the Magic may be interested in Kemba.
Quote from: Chris Mannix
The Magic have been looking for point guard help, kicking the tires on Ricky Rubio recently. Celtics guard Kemba Walker remains a favorite of Magic coach Steve Clifford, but it’s unlikely Boston, without much depth behind Walker, will part with him at this point.

Why for the Kings:
Rumor has it that they might try to make the playoffs. It would be a win-now trade on their part.

Why for the C's:

We'd save $15,732,109 next season. The trade would also help us stay under the apron next season in case we use the TPE in a sign and trade. For instance, we could go after John Collins. He's probably the best free agent we can realistically hope to get. Long story short, this would be a salary dump.

I predict no moves until the off-season.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

I’d be surprised if a trade wasn’t made.  Danny doesn’t seem to like this team.  Some years he doesn’t make a deal because he thinks the team isn’t good enough so why give up an asset to make a marginal improvement.  In the second Kyrie year he wanted the team to work through it.

But this year he seems to think he has the wrong players.  I voted both because I could see him selling off pieces he doesn’t want to contenders (most notably a big, hopefully Kemba but probably not), but I could also see him making a long-term acquisition of a wing who’s got at least another year left on his deal, if not two, and I think he’d do either option even if the other wasn’t there.

Mostly I expect Theis gone.  When Thompson is back, there will be a big who sits every night.  Ainge already said he’s not trading for a free agent who will get more in the market than the Celtics are willing to pay, but keeping Theis is really the same thing — with Thompson and TimeLord still under contract next year, it’s pretty unlikely the C’s will outbid other teams for Theis, so might as well get assets for him now.

I've read some trades where people want to move RWill.  Keep in mind, if you do that, you're staring down TT and Tacko as you're true centers because Theis is probably getting overpaid and will be leaving, unless some type of S&T deal can be worked with him.  There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of FA options in 2021 either.

My trade deadline prediction is that not much happens.  If anything does happens, maybe the Celts use the Kanter TPE to acquire a low-cost veteran while dumping a guy like Semi or Grant.

I could also see Theis getting traded for a protected 1st rounder that's really a couple seconds, and maybe an expiring contract.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.
