Question for veteran Celtics fans

Something about Celtics history has always puzzled me, but now as I am part of the CelticStrong community I have access to some historical Celtic minds, I am hoping someone could provide clarity.

I have always wondered why Don Nelson was never involved in Celtics management, nor Bird or Carlisle in a coaching capacity?

Given Red had a propensity to promote from within, I was always surprised these three never had any involvement with Celtics management after their playing careers ended.

Talk to Paul Gaston.  Bird was involved as a special assistant but the front office never really elevated him or gave him a larger role. Then the whole Rick Pitino obsession began.   That was the end.

Nepotism is the scourge of humanity, so no surprises there then.
