So Vic Fangio was quite upset today at the Ravens running the ball in the final seconds of the game (the Ravens were up 23-7) to secure a 100 yard rushing game to tie the NFL record at 43 straight games. Fangio went on quite the rant about player safety, how it was disrespectful, etc. Of course, Fangio called 3 timeouts starting with 28 seconds left in the game when the Broncos had the ball (they ended up throwing an INT in the end zone on a play that started with 10 seconds left). So does he not care about player safety when he was calling time outs with under 30 seconds left and his team down 16, or is it only when the other team has the ball that player safety matters?
And let me be clear, I have no issue with Denver calling timeouts and trying to score, just don't complain about the other team running a play that they could only run because you didn't let the game end yourself.
There’s a difference between trying to make a miracle comeback and running an unnecessary play after the game has been decided. It reminds when Greg Schiano blitzed a victory formation years ago. Sure, you’re allowed to, but there’s no need.
I also think Fangio was upset that Bridgewater got concussed on a late hit to the head after he’d released the ball that didn’t get called.
Ah yes because a team down by 16 with 10 seconds left is going to win the game. I mean come on that is garbage.
I'm sure he was upset about losing Bridgewater, but his rant was far more focused on the end of the game and not the hit on Bridgewater (which is more an issue with the refs than anything else and may be why he didn't focus on that so he didn't get fined from the league).
It’s clearly possible. Highly unlikely, but technically possible. The Ravens had time to run a play after the interception, so the Broncos would have had time to run a Hail Mary had they scored the touchdown and gotten the onside kick. If they’d scored 2 plays earlier, when they first got into the red zone and still had a timeout, they’d have even had a chance to move the ball after an onside kick recovery.
What the Broncos did (trying to not lose) was straight up different than what the Ravens did (run a play solely for the purposes of stats when the game was won). If you can’t see that, I’m not sure how much football you actually watch.
the onside kick runs time off the clock though. Look, as I said, I have no issues with Denver taking all the time outs they want, my issue is the whining like a baby when the other team runs a play at the end of regulation and then claiming it is a question of player safety or disrespect. Don't call the time outs and end the game if you are worried about player safety. Don't throw an INT if you don't want the other team to run any more plays. You play a game for 60 minutes.
