That’s insane that Kobe was an All-Star at age 19.

He didn’t earn that one.  It was more about hype, potential and exceeding expectations.

Gotcha.
Yeah, that was a total farce. An All-Star who averaged 15-3-3 off the bench with really bad efficiencies. He was the 5th best player on his own team, lol

The All-Star game current set-up cheapens the NBA something chronic.

I realize it probably helps with sales generally, but it's just so awful.

The skills course is embarrassing, the actual game is increasingly pointless, the dunk comp has sucked SO bad since the Gordon/LaVine showdown.

Three point thing is cool - that mountain dew spot should go back another 10 feet though.

There was an All-Star game?   :P

I'm kind of surprised Brown played 26 minutes. Kind of thought he'd play short minutes to rest his knee.

Hope it's not a Kemba repeat.

Even though the game was a bit of a dud, (Team Lebron was just plain stacked), I was pretty entertained btw the Dame & Steph stuff and Giannis' shooting.  I do like the Elam ending although wish the game had been closer.  You just have to realize its an exhibition game and the stars of starts.  It's not supposed to be traditional basketball game.

I thought Cassius Stanley got stressed in the slam dunk contest on his first dunk which threw everything off.

  • Yup
I mostly enjoyed the game.  Chris Paul's jump ball and alley oop dunk were fun.

Celtics guys showed up and played well under the circumstances.

I was expecting more Luka spotlight.
Yup

https://www.espn.com/nba/insider/story/_/id/30999027/nba-all-star-2021-grades-best-worst-team-lebron-team-durant-every-event

Jaylen Brown
Boston Celtics
Guard | Grade: A-

Stats
22 PTS | 5 REB | 5-7 3-PT FG

Analysis
In his All-Star debut, Brown showed he belonged on the NBA's biggest individual stage, scoring 22 points on 8-of-12 shooting, including five 3-pointers. Most crucial was a 4-point play during the fourth quarter when he knocked down a 3 while getting pushed out of bounds by defender Zach LaVine. Getting in the All-Star spirit, Brown also completed an alley-oop to himself off the glass.

Jayson Tatum
Boston Celtics
Forward | Grade: A-

Stats
21 PTS | 4 REB | 7 AST

Analysis
The active Tatum showed his improvement as a playmaker by handing out seven assists to go along with his 21 points. Taking defense seriously at times, Tatum also finished with a game-high four steals, including one when he denied a backdoor cut early in the game.

yeah, I think Tatum was the only guy on either team who played any defense

I hate to say it, though, but Marv Albert might need to hang it up.  He was not good last night.  Misidentifying players, losing his train of thought, etc.

I missed most of the All-Star festivities, including the game. When I did tune in, there were 9 players walking around and uninterested, and one guy dribbling and taking a shot. If it looked like they didn't care about playing, then why should I watch. There is far too much content out there to watch on TV, than to bother with an All-Star game now.

Something definitely needs to be done to fix it, or just do away with it entirely. The players are only interested in being elected as an All-Star, as a means to reaching a contract incentive or gaining leverage towards their next contract. The love of the game or having a competitive spirit is lost on todays players toward the All-Star game.

I'm happy for the people who did watch and were able to enjoy it.

The All-Star break is supposed to be just that - a break.  I understand that it isn't particularly entertaining for most (I probably just watch it because of fond memories when I was a little kid), but I am not sure why anybody would expect hardcore competition or a great game. Even though the score was quite lopsided, I enjoyed watching Tatum and Brown and was pretty impressed with some of those half-court bombs by Steph/Lillard.

It is a way to bring some levity to an otherwise competitive season. Glad the best players in the world can come together, have fun, and attempt to put on an entertaining show - even though it isn't real basketball.

I didn't watch the game this year, but he was pretty bad last year too.

I read somewhere that this might be the final year of his TNT contract.   He's gonna be 80 in June.

Incredible voice. Tons of memories.  He's just lost his fastball.

For sure.  Right now, he’s quite a bit worse than any number of local broadcasters.
