Lakers is my guess

Why hasn't Lakers signed Cousins yet?

The Lakers said they dont want Cousins.

Geez if he goes to Brooklyn, no one gotta beat them..I know he is not the same Blake as he was at LA but he still is pretty decent and won’t have to play a lot of minutes
C/PF-Horford, Baynes, Noel, Theis, Morris,
SF/SG- Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart, Semi, Clark
PG- Irving, Rozier, Larkin

Yeah even if I wanted him to go to us, I voted for Brooklyn in the poll. It makes too much sense for him to go to a legit contender this year instead of trying to take another team closer to being a contender.

Brooklyn needs defenders more than scorers. I don't think Blake is a good fit for the Nets. Good team foe Blake but not sure about fit for the Nets.

Let me let you in on a secret. Brooklyn needs nothing to win it all. Great offense beats great Defense. Blake makes is just unfair.

76ers getting P.J. Tucker...can't see any reason why the Nets don't pick up Blake Griffin. Heck he might even turn back the clock and start lob city east again lol

Those two teams are basically the powerhouses of the East now.

Guessing Brooklyn unless he really wanted to be a starter and try to rehabilitate his image. In that case, we’d have a shot. Doubtful, though...something tells me he’s taken the payoff, wants a title and then wants to enjoy post-basketball life.

Exactly. I don’t buy the narrative of BKN needing “defenders”. We want to believe that because none of us here really want to see Kyrie-Harden-KD win it all, so we love to poke holes and point out flaws (and the media enables us).

Truth is, Kyrie had it right a few weeks ago when BKN had a brief losing stint. “Don’t worry, we’ll be there [in the finals]”. He’s right. They’re figuring things out (and getting healthy) but there’s too much talent to not get to the Finals.

I just hope whichever likable team comes out West (read: not Lakers) will be able to topple them.

Nah the defense can be a problem to teams that can exploit it. It has nothing to do with a narrative and besides Blake Griffin isn't what he used to be so I don't understand why it makes it "unfair".

I do think the Jazz can beat the Nets in the Finals. At this point, the big question mark is whether the officiating in the WCF is going to help the Lakers overcome Utah. They’re probably the only two teams that can beat the Nets this year.

There’s a difference between “their team isn’t good at something” vs “their team has a problem”. Brooklyn might not trot out strong defensive units but they’re so talented offensively that they can overcome it.

Besides, what teams this year are flawless enough offensively to exploit their defense while still being strong enough defensively to contain Kyrie, KD and Harden? There miiiiiight be a few (like the Lakers, maybe the Jazz if they stay hot from deep all series, maybe the Clippers if Kawhi can recapture that Raptors magic) but it’s far from a sure thing. It reminds me a bit of the 03 Lakers actually. Yes, they lost in the Finals to a deserving Pistons team but they still made it to the freaking Finals!

And of course it’s a narrative because the media needs to drum up interest. They’re a villain team that’s easy to hate so it’s fun to rag on them and talk about how they can’t win. But truth is, they’re a really formidable team and even in their current form, they’re already a top team with good title chances.

I never said getting Blake was unfair but even a lesser version of him is still better than the benchwarmers we see on teams, so it’s free depth for the Nets. I think Blake could really help us, for example, and then adding a Barnes or whoever after that too gives us enough juice to be a contender.

When was the last time there was a championship team that didn't just play average defence, they played bad defence?

Blake might make it unfair if he was actually good at basketball. That is not the case though

The last team to win an NBA championship with a below average defence in the regular season were the '01 Lakers, but they turned it up in the playoffs with the lowest DRTG in the playoffs despite them facing some of the best teams available that year in their run (their relative DRTG would be even more insane).

I just ... don't believe defense is as important as it once was. Not only that but that defense itself is becoming less and less important with each passing year as the rule changes make it harder to play high quality defense.

I think history here is giving us misleading information as to how the game is played today. We are comparing today's league where defense matters less than ever before to past leagues where defense was King. It is not the same. It is a different league today.

-------------------------

The interesting part of this is how it effects Brooklyn not on defense but on offense. Their offensive weapons are now harder than ever to slow down. This isn't a case of the 2004 Pistons putting the clamps on them. Nobody can do that in today's league.

Brooklyn has 3 superstar offensive weapons who are 25-30ppg threats, who are among the best shooters in the league at their respective positions, who can also handle the ball and attack the rim, and who also post scoring efficiency numbers of TS% in the 60-65% range.

Add in guys like Joe Harris (another 65% TS% guy and maybe the finest spot up shooter in the league) and DeAndre Jordan (65-70% TS%) as a rim finisher.

Just look at the spacing and high leverage offense that quintet creates. Think of how difficult it is to send a help defender onto anyone without leaving huge gaps on the weakside of the court for one the three superstars to exploit or elite finishing role players.

This is an offense that cannot be stopped.

Yes, their defense is weak and yes that will lead to opponents juicing up their offenses ... but ... they still will have to out-score this Brooklyn team without a hope of being able to slow them down on the other end of the floor.

That is going to be extremely difficult to do.

I think it’s:

1. Brooklyn
2. LAL
3. Miami
4. Portland
5. Dallas
6. GSW
7. Boston

In that order.
