Why get rid of Ainge when he’s just started the rebuild ? Especially in a COVID riddled year. Doesn’t make sense.

Tatum, Brown, Smart, Rob Williams, & Payton Pritchard haven’t even reached puberty yet. Those youngsters beat 3/4’s the teams in this league already. What happens when they actually develop their games & get nba comfortable?

He’s got a vet in Kemba, and found a solid piece out of nowhere in Daniel Theis. Now, he’s got room to add yet another piece to the rotation.

You don’t fire a guy with his track record, and especially when he’s put you in a contender spot in the East with your current situation. What’s the rush ? The team is real young. See it through.

Larry purposely went to Indiana to coach and be their president because he lives in Indiana and loves being at home. He also purposely coach only three years and limited his GM stay to just a few years(in part due to heart issues). He is now a Pacer consultant.

I see zero way you lure a very happy in retirement Larry Bird for a high pressure job here in Boston. He has mentioned, in stepping down in Indy, his need not to travel as much because his lovely wife put up with him traveling and not being at home all those years he was a player and coach.

I think Larry stays in his home of Indiana because he has no desire to be directly involved in the day to day stuff of running a team for very personal reasons: health, home and happy wife, happy life.

For those reasons, as others have said: "Larry Bird is not walking through that door!"

This is all fair, and perhaps you are correct. But as I said, money changes a lot of people's plans. I think there is probably a scenario out there where he could come in for 3 or 4 years and still spend plenty of time in Indiana.

Keeping Zarren on is a must either way, I concur on that point.

I seriously doubt money would lure Bird back. He has made a ton and doesn't seem to be the type of guy that would unretire solely for cash purposes.

TP. Totally forgot about that huge offer he walked away from. Larry has always seemed to make career decisions based of his comfort level and competitive basketball opportunity for success and not because of money.

Never mind, I found it. Walked away from 2 years 10 million at the end of his playing career.

I concede that money may matter less to him than to others, but there's a big difference between playing and being an executive when it comes to lifestyle. He could do most of his job from Indiana if it were that important to him.

There was an extension on Bird's contract that would pay him if he waited until after a certain date.  Rather than wait til after that date and get the extension, Bird retired.     I'm sure if you google Dave Gavitt & Larry Bird, you can dig up the whole thing.
