I’d love this trade if combined with 2-3 1st round swaps where we get the best pick each year:

https://tradenba.com/trades/t8pAl74IV

That would leave us with the following under contract in the off-season after declining Edwards’ option:

Pritchard/Madar
Smart
Brown/Nesmith
Tatum

I’m all-in on a rebuild, so I’d ship Brown for the first overall pick and add Cade Cunningham to our backcourt. I’d then flip Smart for an unprotected future first:

Cunningham/Pritchard/Madar
Tatum/Nesmith
2021 1st rounder
2021 2nd rounder

I’d then add 7-8 guys who scream “Brad Stevens rehabilitation projects” on cheap 1-2 year contracts (frankly, think that team would be just as interesting as this team), continue to draft smartly and add our Big 3 piece to Tatum/Cunningham in the 2023 free agency with Jokic. Or if he passes, try to see if Zion is fed up with the Pelicans and try to cut a deal (or offer him a one year max they have to match, making him a free agent in 2024).

LMA is cooked, he'd be a fair bench signing next year somewhere but I don't see him doing much for us.

I love Demar and he's really made significant improvements to his game the last few years, especially on the Spurs under someone who isn't Dwanye Casey.

That said, I'm not sure if he's a great fit between Brown and Tatum (especially if we somehow got him without moving Kemba). That's a lot of shots that need to go up.

The only way DeRozan fits here is if we send out Kemba and roll with him as a point forward. Rock a lineup of Smart-Brown-DeRozan-Tatum-Timelord.

Given the state of his playmaking now I think that lineup would work pretty amazingly.

More interested in Murray though.
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

i think this lineup sounds great ... so great that we should send Kemba plus a first round pick to make it happen.

The sixth man role exists - I've been pushing the idea of playing Kemba like the Spurs did with Ginobili if we got another creator.

Rotation
PG: Smart, Kemba, FastPP
SG: DeRozan, Smart
SF: Jaylen, DeRozan, Semi/Nesmith/Langford
PF: Tatum, Jaylen, Grant/Semi
C: Theis, TT, Robert

That's a pretty good 8 man rotation with guys like FastPP/Semi/Nesmith/Langford/Robert who can step in as our 9th/10th men every night.

DeRozen would be an awesome addition.

Is it legal for Cs to talk to DeRozen's agent about re-signing here if traded to us? With SAS' permission? If so, and DeRozen is open to it, I'd trade the TPE for him. Then do a separate, second deal of:

Thompson, either Langford or Nesmith, and 2021 1st round pick for Gay.

Cs trade: Thompson, Nesmith or Langford, 2021 1st, TPE
Cs receive: DeRozen, Gay (also expiring)

I'm not sure how the numbers work though. Can someone comment on the hard cap element of if we literally HAVE to trade Kemba or Marcus to get this to work? The second deal can be played with to make the money lighter for the Cs by swapping in Lyles for Gay or something of that sort (i think).

For sure, that could definitely work, I just don't know if we'd try and retain DeMar with Kemba's money still on the books

Used up .

If they had much left they wouldn’t be shopped to get what they can before they become next Older players Celtics get that get their major injuries.  Get these guys after you have a solid young physical group that is playing championship level ball.  Not ready to hire this type yet.

If it looked like the Celtics were contenders already this season, I would say go for it if it could push them over the top.

But they haven't looked that way.   I only want to see them trade the TPE for someone that they can control and use beyond this season, not have to resign as an unrestricted FA.

Derozan is still a killer. Earlier in the season, when I had higher hopes we were a contender, I would’ve wanted Derozan on this team. Now? It doesn’t make as much sense.

As I asked above (and considering they'd have his bird rights), could they not get to the bottom of whether DeRozen would stay this summer? If they can get a good indication he'd be very open to the fit, it could be a worthwhile risk compared to other options.

He might want to stay now but things change when multiple teams have money to spend and few options.

Wyc said he'd pay the tax for a team that's good enough to win the title, and the team above has the starpower and supporting pieces to compete for one.

Ok, so get some form of verbal handshake that the Cs can match what others offer him this summer if they trade for him now....
