Tatum & Brown would be only 2 keepers..everyone else on the block

I would add Nesmith, Langford and Smart in this list. Less for sures but still a nice base to work with. TL also as the energy big/verticality off the bench
I would say definite keepers - Jays + Smart (extended for $15M a year?) .. then PP ; AN and RL can't fetch more than a second rounders - so that makes them keepers.
Timelord is probably the best trading chip - worth a heavily protected FRP
Then TT, DT, SO and GW might be worth high SRPs - it probably makes sense to package them to teams needing Vets with playoff experience and try and get a FRP that way.
the rest of the roster is not worth of picks. I know Danny values second rounders "highly" but he should really try to get FRP a few years down the line (unprotected picks would be a dream case) ... just filling the team with second rounders like Ojelye or Time lords is not going to get us anywhere. We need assets to trade for a real star when the price is 5-6 FRPs.

If Celts decide to do a mini blow up

- TT  should be able to being back a late 1st
- Theis could bring back a late 1st
- Semi will bring back a decent 2nd

Plus Celtics go on legit tank mode.  So their own high 1st

all of these things plus some other pieces suddenly is a more attractive package for KAT or Beal etc.

As I've been saying for years, Boston should be doing everything possible to maximize the Jayson Tatum championship window.  If that means they sell, they should.  If that means they buy, they should.  If that means they do nothing, well maybe they shouldn't do that, but if that truly does, then they should.  This team needs to maximize Tatum.  They've needed to do it since basically the summer after his rookie year, and they just haven't done it.  Tatum is Boston's shot at a title.  Maximize his chances of leading the team to that goal.

You’re Tatum’s biggest fan — by far. Do you have any friends that are fans of other teams? You could use some perspective. Tatum is a nice piece but he isn’t LeBron. Tatum’s absolute ceiling is Kawhi or PG — a guy you still need considerable other all stars around to have a tiny shot at winning anything.
Earlier this week, Cowherd called him the 11th best player in the game.  ESPN at the start of the year had him at 9.  I live outside of Cleveland, and they would all basically trade their entire team for Tatum.  Tatum is a monster in the making and he is just 22 in year 4.  I agree he isn't Lebron (no one is), but he absolutely has top 3 player potential and will most likely be an annual contender for MVP.  He is a future franchise player.  You can watch his game and see this.  He is an excellent shooter, solid rebounder, developing play maker, and a plus defender (not elite, but certainly good enough).  Tatum has all of the tools.  He is also by far the most important player to determining whether or not Boston wins or loses games.

Boston will not win a title unless Tatum reaches his full potential, so the team should be doing everything in its power to maximize Tatum's chance at reaching his full potential.  In addition, the moves should be geared around setting the team up to be deep enough and good enough to actually contend when Tatum does reach his full potential.  Brown is basically the only player on the team that you can comfortably say that about, as such everyone else should be on the chopping block (I do like what I've seen from RW, PP, and AN, but there are no guarantees they will be key rotation pieces at any point in their career).  Smart is just too injury prone to be relied upon, but certainly could still be a solid rotational piece in a couple of seasons.

And as I've been saying for years, this is the fundamental issue I have with the direction Ainge has taken the team.  Since basically the day he made the KG/PP trade, he has been trying to win, while also building for the future, and I absolutely 100% believe he harmed both paths by doing that.  He needed to pick a direction years ago and now frankly it is too late as the team just doesn't have the assets (on the team or in the future) to really effectively pick either path.  The one last shot was Harden, and Ainge was too gunshy to go all in, and has basically foreclosed Boston's window for at least 2 seasons.  Given that, he should absolutely be dumping Walker, dumping Thompson, seeing what he can get for Theis (and his great contract), etc.  Boston needs to add potential rotational pieces for a few seasons down the line, when Tatum will be truly ready.

I agree with all of this, except - Danny chose to tank when he made the Brooklyn deal and signed Brad to rebuild. It’s just that the team found success more quickly than anticipated, became a playoff team in a weak East, and actually assembled a competitive young team. The rebuild was too successful too quickly and he suddenly saw winning opportunities while outsourcing the tank to Brooklyn. I don’t think he harmed our path to winning. I think Hayward’s injury and Kyrie’s attitude did that. That should’ve been a title contending team for years, and Danny built it. Sucks.

To the OP, there’s a Hoop Collective podcast out with Windhorst/Bontemps/MacMahon discussing this exact topic for the Celtics and Mavs. I’m listening now.

Cant see TT fetching a FRP.. Salary and fit with teams is a problem. Theis is much easier to trade and is expiring. Semi too.
I was thinking - we get our pick in the 9-11 range .. then PP , AN and RL would have put decent numbers and their stock might be rising. We might set our selves for great trades next offseason. We also have Kemba's contract to match a superstar contract - like Beal ..however I don't want him. I want a legit PF ... not sure who that can be besides Collins in a S&T... I would also like us to trade for a Lowry type player but younger - mid 20s. Cant figure who that might be besides Fox (but he will be pricey to acquire) .
Another one I was thinking - If Utah fail miserably and get bounced by Dallas or a team like that in the first round they might trade us Gobert...

We're not sellers, unless it's to improve, i.e., Kemba for Player X.  Team was 10-8 when Smart went down.  I think when he comes back, I might start him over Kemba.

I disagree with that because I don't think Irving and Hayward would good enough as a duo to be a real contender.  Even with solid players surrounding them like Horford, Smart and eventually Brown and Tatum.  Neither one of those guys had a true franchise player peak.  Tatum is the only Celtic since Garnett got old (or injured) that could be the main guy on a multi-year contender and I just don't like the fit of Tatum with Irving and Hayward (even in the most optimal situation).  Hayward would be fine on the court, he would have been too old though I think to carry the type of load he would need to when Tatum finally matured into his peak form.  I don't think Irving and Tatum is a very good fit on the court and Irving was always injury prone.

And to be clear, I wasn't enthralled with the Irving trade when it happened (you can see my posts at the time), but the real failure was not pulling the trigger on the Leonard trade.  Ainge never should have acquired Irving if he wasn't willing to trade Brown for someone like Leonard.  Leonard was the piece the team needed.  Even if it was just 1 season, it would have been worth it because Leonard would have put Boston over the top and that would have changed the whole complexion of the team.

Thompson is on a very friendly contract.  Its short and cheap

He scored 13 points and 13 rebounds yesterday. He has value + deep playoff experience

I would think a late 1st for a team desperate for help upfront or replace someone that is injured

Listening to Wyc and Ainge, and the likelihood that they’ll be able to use the full TPE in the off-season, I think they’re gonna wait to see if they can pry Beal loose. For that reason they may become sellers this season if it nets them a few more assets that could get that deal done.

Well Danny just said on the radio what I also thought. Ball Stoppers is not the worst thing in the world that Brown and Tatum could be called. He too, referenced Kobe and Pierce as 2 great ball stoppers. Why on Earth would we not want our best players to be getting the ball in their hands to shine. He also mentioned Pierce in 06 and how they changed things to surround him with the right parts when the right opportunity presented itself. I get the feeling he will not be doing any trade of significance during the regular season. He did mention how if they did something now, it could prevent them from being able to do something huge in the offseason..that is the big question, why do something now to get to the 2nd round when you might be able to do something in the summer that allows us to get to the promised land next year.

I disagree

There is a time to ball stop and there is a time to get your team going and also make your life easier

Emptying the gas in the 1st half and having little left in the 2nd half is not smart.  As well decrease energy for defense

You can't expect the role players to make tough shots ... when ball stoppers are stuck

Like Scal said, the superstars make the role players look good. Then press on the gas in the 2nd half/tight situations

thats why they are superstars

Beal doesn’t fit within the TPE. They would need to get creative to use it and trade for him.

Well sure. They would need to trade for Beal. Point is he’s the type of guy who may be gettable in the off-season and make them a much more competitive team. That guy is probably not available using the TPE in-season, now.

Yeah, that's why I think that trade proposal the other day was absolutely nuts.  You don't trade a guy like Tatum.  You try to find a guy like Tatum.
