I would still love to know how the heck Nesmith plays 22 minutes and yet doesn't attempt a shot.

Scal said it better in the Post Game show...C's need to Drive, draw 2 defenders and kick it out---I saw way too much dribbling at the top of the key...and when TT got an offensive rebound against 3 Mavs---all 4 C's stood outside the 3 point line waving for a pass from TT, instead of running to the hoop--of course TT got tied up for a jump ball, which naturally we lost.

I don't know, Jaylen has been kicking the ball to open guys a lot lately. It seems like at least he's been making the effort lately to get others involved.

IMO it's just as much to do with the level of talent of the guys outside of our top 2 as well (top 3 when and if Kemba returns to normal).
The Js assists usually comes as a last resort.

Jays must each get their 20 shots off (which is ridiculous if you ask me. Doesnt have to be every single game)

It has helped raise their PPG. It helped them make the all star game.  Make an additional 1.3 m dollars

And Brad is not going to yell at them or anything. But praise them. Danny is going go praise them

It is a sad state of basketball

Celts two best games this season was vs Raptors and Hawks(game won).  More than 25 team assist

More than offense, this team needs defense.

Besides, what’s wrong with 20 shots? This team needs JB and JT to shoot to win. Or are you just chomping at the bit for Smart to come back and start jacking up shots? ::)

I love Gorman but putting this on Tatum and Brown seems off-base.  Check out Kemba's game logs since he's been back and the team's W-L record.  It's been an atrocious performance both offensively and defensively.

Overarching themes are the team's decline in overall defense (relative to last season) and 4th quarter execution (a carry-over from last season and playoffs).
Love Stevens as well but how is he immune to criticism on these fronts?

Well we’ve seen some pretty elite defense under Brad, so I don’t think he just forgot about the defensive end. I’d put that decline in personnel over a proven defensive coach. As far as late-game execution, they have very few vets to rely on. Kemba is the only vet scorer, and he’s still not close to 100%.

This is the exact same way I feel.  Kemba, JT and JB are all ball stoppers.  They get the ball and make their move.  This is why Tatum turns it over so much.  The D is just waiting for him.  They all are playing ISO ball.  When they are at their best they are making their move off a pass because there is an open lane.  They can easily find the open man as well.  When they play ISO ball the D is ready and the only pass is a difficult pass that they can't make.  This team reminds me of the Kyrie team.  Everyone takes turns going 1 on 5.  Marcus moves the ball.  It's why he's missed and he finds open teammates.  Having Marus in the lineup with these guys allows someone else to handle the ball and find the open man.  This offense has been garbage since Smart went out because they don't want to pass the ball from side to side.  It's the ball hog three show.  This team is as fund to watch as the Kyrie led team.

To be fair, Mike should be ripping Kemba for jacking up bad shots as well. Why isn’t Walker getting His teammates involved by driving and kicking to an open Jaylen or Jayson? He’s the 30 year old veteran point guard out there and he gets only a few assists per game. Other than shooting, he doesn't do anything else to help this team win games.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

I don't know how you mention ballstopping, iso play etc. without mentioning Kemba. At least Tatum and Brown have been more efficient with their ball stopping.

In fact, does Brown even belong in this criticism? Compare to Tatum and Kemba (and look at Smart and Pritchard to compare to other ballhandlers):

For all is recent woes Kemba hasn’t been a ball stopper. He doesn’t have great assist numbers but he moves the ball and tends not to take bad shots... he’s just been missing.

More broadly, Tatum and Brown are the team’s best players, as Mike points out. You get the glory and you get the blame. Starts with them.

Check out my post re: touches stats. Kemba stops the ball and when you take into account his number of touches per game and efficiency at scoring, his ball stopping may be the biggest problem in that area.

Let's just say they are ball stoppers (I disagree), but even if they are who exactly are they supposed to pass to?  Theis, Semi, Williams, Thompson, Walker, etc.  Who would you rather shoot the ball?  Who would you rather be making decisions?  If you can honestly say Daniel Theis, well then I almost feel bad for you.

They passed vs Hawks and Raptors. 25 plus team assists.  Easy wins.

So dont tell me there is nobody to pass to

Doncic passes to nobodies. Team gets involved.
They had 19 team assists against the Mavs and the team shot ok at 47.7 (though Brown was 60%) and Tatum/Brown combined for 9 assists.  They had 22 assists the game they lost to the Hawks vs. 26 in the win.  Of course in the win the team shot 55.6% and in the loss only 46.5% so was it more and better passing or just better shooting.  They had 22 assists in the OT game against the Pelicans, of course the team shot 39.8%.

Aside from Fall (who doesn't count) and Semi, Tatum has the best TOV% on the team.  So Tatum in fact doesn't turn the ball over hardly at all.

It seems exactly like the Kyrie team but maybe even worse.  We had more ballhogs to share the wealth on that team.  And for a guy like Morris, somebody had to make a pass to get it to him.

You know that Kobe Bryant was such a ball stopper. Some would have tried to trade him as well I am sure.

Ridiculous. We have 2  players that score at a high level right now on this team and we are crying that Tatum and Brown shoot too much. Yes, we would be so much better if our horrible shooters got more involved in the flow of the offense so we could lose by 30 every night. If only Kemba and others could shoot more  :'(

Patience is needed. 3 out of 4 years in the conference finals and we are expecting a team that has lost Horford, Kyrie and Hayward to suddenly become dominant with their 2 young super stars aged 22 and 24 years of age. This is so ludicrous on so many levels.

How dominant was young Pierce and young Walker? Did they get us to the finals? Eventually it took the right trade to get Pierce to the promised land in 2007. The big difference is that we have 2 legit super stars at a young age now and Pierce was the only one of the 2 back in that time period early on. Walker was a good number 2. We now have 2 really good number 1's who are getting better and better.

Patience and surrounding them with the right parts and depth is the way we will win more titles. No trade this year will get us over the hump in my opinion. I am starting to think it would be a waste unless something too good to pass up appears.

Ball stoppers .If only Tatum and Brown could become great ball stoppers like Kobe we would enjoy some more banners in the coming years.

Brown looks like he has reverted back to some bad habits on the D end

Smart has barked at him several times before for defense hiccups

Someone should call into Felger and point out that maybe Gorman isn't the ultra-homer he constantly makes the guy out to be.....
