KAT hardly seems mad about it. Just wishful that more African-Americans become head coaches.
Lillard and McCollum are outsiders commenting on it, so not sure how valuable their word is. I think it's fair to want more POC coaches, but Chris Finch is a very widely respected coach
Dame and CJ are commenting because David Vanterpool was an assistant in Portland for awhile. And I think the issue is that they decided on Chris Finch without being willing to give David an interview at least.
The most interesting takeaway is that Wolves management didn't notify KAT ahead of time or get his opinion about the coaching change.
I don’t think teams should be operating by asking players who they want as coach. Some things should be done “piecemeal” and separate from. There’s a hierarchy and structure in place for a reason. Star players should not make personnel decisions. Otherwise we will end up with a bunch of Jason Kidds and Derek fishers and as coaches around the league
That's nice, but that's not how the NBA works in this millennium. Consulting "franchise" players on personnel decisions and giving them other perks is par for the course in keeping them happy. And make no mistake - we can talk about hierarchy and franchise prestige - but keeping star players happy is what's most important to a franchise's relevance these days.
fair enough
What do players (like lilliard) on other teams have to do with this? It’s not fair to the new coach
RJ did mention that the guy Lillard is advocating for had worked with Portland, so there's a link there. They probably want the guy they're close with to get promoted - it makes sense.
It does add another layer of pressure on Finch though
you’re ignoring a crucial element here. Lilliard and McCollum are only disapproving because of Finch’s race. Had another person of color been hired as coach of the wolves, I’m doubting they would have been talking about their buddy from Portland getting slighted.
By making this commentary, they’re Insinuating there is conspiracy against hiring black coaches. There isn’t
You can tell that this will occur any time a white coach gets hired because this happened in the nfl. I forgot which team hired a white coach and there was an uproar
No, that’s just what you’re choosing to infer because of the agenda you want to push regarding NBA players seeking to espouse conspiracy theories, as evidenced by your once again misleading and baiting thread title
