proportion-wise, the NBA player base is the least diverse of any American major sports league. 1 race encompasses over 75% of the players, and non-black players get discriminated. Jeremy lin said he was passed on in the draft because of his race.


When was the last time the players asked for more player diversity to allow more Asians, Europeans, American whites, Hispanics, and Indians to be drafted?

I just don’t understand what the skin color of a coach matters so much to voice displeasure or disapproval or a hiring. This new wolves coach could be the next popovich for all we know. Think about it: if this was popovich getting hired for the first time, and he was being tweeted about negatively before he gets to coach his first game, how fair would that have been to popovich? How well would those tweets by lilliard and McCollum age?

It's entirely possible that Lillard / McCollum have overstepped in this case, but I suggest learning more about these cases before making such a blanket statement. The NFL case, which is potentially driving Deshaun Watson to another team, was not just "any time a white coach gets hired".

There's a lot layers to this that I think you're oversimplifying. Yes, Dame and CJ are advocating for a black coach, but it's someone they can also vouch for professionally. Not only was Vanterpool passed over without consideration, the organization brought in a coach from a different franchise. That atypical in and of itself. Midseason coach opening are usually replaced by an internal coach on an interim basis.

If I had a coworker in another department who's direct supervisor was fired suddenly and immediately replaced by an external candidate without my coworker getting the opportunity to interview, I'd have some questions.

Vanterpool has been interviewed for several NBA head coaching jobs and hasn't gotten any of them.  The last being the Rockets job.  Interim coaches are used when you don't know who you want to hire.  If you know who you want, there is no reason not to just hire that person.

Also the race card was played when the Nets hired Nash even though the Nets had done the same thing with hiring Jason Kidd several years earlier.
