Not exactly news, but I thought it's worth a share.

Quote from: Ric Bucher
A lot of GMs are ticked off at Danny because Danny tried like hell to move Kemba at the beginning of the year, knowing that his knee wasn’t right. He was trying to get rid of damaged goods. That’s the issue that Kemba is dealing with, and at his size, it’s a little bit like Isaiah Thomas. In the regular season, you can kind of get away with it and disguise it. But when you play the best teams, they’re going to exploit that he’s undersized and can’t move the same way that he once could.

Personally speaking, I choose to believe him. Fwiw, here's a similar report from November 19.

Quote from: Zach Harper @ The Athletic
League sources said Danny Ainge was trying to move Kemba Walker for a top 10 pick prior to the deadline. He dangled Kemba in front of Chicago and Cleveland, but neither team bit on the offer.

I’m confused why Ainge got Kemba if he wanted to trade him after one season...

He didn’t do his due diligence.

Why are other GMs ticked by that ? It’s probably a spin to make Danny look worse and to make it more dramatic. The question is - Danny wanted a top 10 pick to draft Halliburton ... why couldn’t he move his 3 picks for a top ten pick ?
I can see wizards as potential trade partner . Why waste the Bane pick for some distant second rounders

Signed him as an asset (with available cap space) that could be moved later for others if need be -- didn't count on him having chronic tendonitis. Woops.

Because three picks outside the top 10 are not more enticing than one pick inside the top 10.

Because he wasn't as injured when we signed him in the first place.

At this point Danny’s  rep is trash.   Probably a good time to move on for the teams interest.  He’s had a good run.

Yeah Kamba has bad knees...not good for a basketball player his size. Did MJ know this?

yup

+ knee jerk reaction to losing Irving

Tatum recruitment of Walker

Ainge didn't do his due diligence

Kemba on a 2 year deal would have been fine. But 3 years + player option ..... btw at this rate he is going to pick up that option yesterday.  With a Kemba smile  ;D

It seemed like a good idea at the time to add Walker after Irving and Horford walked.  It seemed like an infusion of talent like Walker would lessen the blow.  If Ainge offered Walker in some trades this year, it's fine with me.  The knee issue hasn't been a secret either, so it's not like he was trying to pull a fast one on another team.  Not sure what the significance of this is.

Rumor was that Hornets tried to trade Kemba by the trade deadline

So they were lukewarm .... long term plans to keep him for max type money (nevermind supermax)

He saw the medical records.  He also saw Kemba miss a total of six games the prior four years with no ill effects.  And, he later saw Kemba play at an All-NBA level until Kemba tweaked his knee.

Kemba was worth a max contract when signed.  Not everything is foreseeable.
