We have seen a ton of big trade ideas, but most of those will not materialize until closer to the trade deadline.

How about a smaller trade for a cheap, older vet who may not have a future on this team.   Someone that may cost a player like Green or Edwards plus a 2nd or who could fit in the smaller TPE.   Someone who the team could use now for consistent play but may just fall out of the rotation once everyone is healthy and they add another player with the big MLE.   Someone to help get the Celtics through the month.

Feel like Wayne Ellington is an obvious choice. Tatum and Brown could really use a guy who can spot up from 3 and make 3-4 a game at a 40% clip. Although (for Pete's sake) Edwards SHOULD be able to fill that role.

I'm anti-trade. This team should fix itself or sink this season. Save it's ammo for the offseason when they can use the full TPE. Play the young guys and develop them.

Thad Young for a 2022 first round pick.  Not exactly "cheap" in terms of contract but fairly cheap in terms of what I would think it would take to get him.

Is Thaddeus Young worth a first rounder? He is getting old now. He has a dodgy outside shot. His game will likely struggle to age well given his lack of shooting ability and reliance on out-quicking his opponent (which already happens less than it used to thanks to PF position getting smaller and quicker each year).

Not sure how much I want him or if I would prefer to just keep our assets and play Semi / Grant Williams instead.

He feels more like the "well the big trade at the deadline isn't going to happen, lets make this deal to help the team"

I am thinking more along the lines 4.5 million or less in salary.  A player to help the team get through Feb.

I just don't see players like Green, Edwards or Teague (duh) as long term guys that the Celtics should worry so much about long term development.

These are the kinds of trades Ainge is good at NOT making. Trading future firsts makes is much more complicated to trade other future firsts. We don't need that.

Save that pick, and put it in a trade for a guy who might actually move the needle.

Temple from Chicago fits the bill (and tpe) I’m not sure how much help he is. Probably better than Teague

Small trade:
Grant plus Carsen plus Celtics 21FRP
For PJ Tucker and Bucks 22FRP.

We roll forward our draft pick one year to use as an added asset for a trade next year and we get a vet that can help. We also lower our guaranteed salary next year by a tiny bit and Ainge’s hands will be tied when it comes to bringing more rookies to the roster next year. I think it’s a win win.

I agree they are not long term. When it comes to Green and Teague they are still expiring next year so keeping options for open roster spots next year is staying flexible. I'm not in for minor deals.

Thad Young is 32.  In 9 games in Feb, he is at about 13 pts and 7 rebs in 28 min off the bench, with 62% FG%.  His 3pt% is low and he has only been taking 0.4 attempts per game but he is a career 33% 3p%.  I think he would result in a huge improvement to our bench.  Maybe we only need 20 min out of him.

A Celtics first round pick in 2022 is likely in the 20s.  Maybe he is available for less, if so, even better.

I think when the team makes a trade this  season it has to bring in players who can readily contribute without compromising the core (Tatum, Brown, Kemba) as it pushes to perform better/deep in the playoffs.

Two players I have in mind are Raptor Boucher and George Hill (currently with injured thumb which I hope is not serious and would soon heal). Boucher is a major help in defense wherein he could take on SF/PF scorers (i.e. Lebron, Kahwi, KD, Giannis, Tobias, Barnes, Randle to name a few). A very good shot blocker and defender (one on one and on helping the weak side). I dont know how Danny can acquire him but I think he could really be very valuable. He may not be really cheap to acquire but the price maybe within reach.

Veteran George Hill, a 6'4'' PG, is a very reliable playmaker and 3-ball shooter. Cool with above average composure.
