So we post this during a game in which Tatum is 10 of 19 for 28 points with 2 turnovers (he also has 2 steals).  A game in which Brown is 4 of 17 for 15 points and 3 turnovers.

Seems like a strange time to make this thread.

Did you watch the game? I swear Tatum had 2 or 3 turnovers just in the 4th quarter.

The sequence starting just inside of 9 minutes of the game was real momentum stunting.  Two bad turnovers by Tatum then a horrific travel by Teague.   It didn't necessary cost them the game but it didn't help, then Young started going nuclear.

That stretch killed me.

Especially in a game where the Hawks leading scorer has 8 turnovers. But some folks just hate Tatum.

I really like TATUM...but he is a ball stopper..Brad is not helping him develop. He needs to share the ball make things easier for himself.

Tatum should stop trying to be Kobe.

 Just be Tatum.

I dont think it matters

Trey Young idolize Kobe also

Tatum and Brown both have daredevil type souls.  Take one too many risks

Chris Paul would have been a great pickup.  Tatum and Brown would yield and let him manage the game

Both of them right now respect nobody on the team. Unless they are hot

Maybe Pritchard.

I guess Danny thought Teague could be that guy. Has been a serious disappointment.

If Danny seriously thought that I don’t know what can be added more. Teague has been driving the tank in Minny and Atalanta the last couple seasons. How in the world was he supposed to be a leading guard on a “quasi contender” like Celtics ... absolute negligence

He finished the game with 3 turnovers, though 2 were in the 4th I believe (maybe all 3).  But he was also 11 of 21 for 35 points had 6 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 steals, and 1 foul.  In other words, he had a fabulous game overall.  I stand by my statement that this was an odd game to make this post.

Brown was terrible shooting, but I thought he played fairly well every where else, of course he kept shooting and probably should have stopped.

The real problem in the game is Boston couldn't stop the opposing PG, PF, or C from scoring at will.  And that has been a consistent problem all season long as really only Brown and Tatum defend consistently (Smart does as well but he was out).

Boston just quite simply isn't a great team.  They are going to be up and down all season long, but without Tatum and 1 other player have a great game, they just aren't going to win.  Tatum can't do it alone and with Brown shooting so poorly and without Kemba they have no shot at beating even mediocre teams like the Hawks.

The game of friday is gonna show what this team is made of. They better win convincingly over these Hawks.

I'm pretty sure this is who they are this yr.

We're going have a bunch of games where we look like crap and lose em all then they'll play 1 game where they look like they're all on the same page and focused and they'll win.

And we'll all think they turned a page but no we'll just continue this vicious circle.

So you say Tatum is playing too much hero ball? Lets see.

Tatum
USG %: 30.7
AST %: 22.6
TO %: 9.5

Brown
USG %: 31.4
AST %: 19.0
TO %: 11.6

Kemba
USG %: 28.5
AST %: 22.0
TO %: 12.0

Hmm...so out of the Celtics top 3 players Tatum has the lowest turnover rate, the highest assist rate, and only the second highest usage.

I think some people are placing rhetoric over facts here...

Except that he is something like 400 years old, gets paid more then Elon Musk, and gets injured every time the sun goes down.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Chris Paul as a player.  I sincerely believe he will go down as one of the top 5 point guards ever to play the game.  But at 35 years old and after 15 years in the league (and a significant number of injuries) who knows how long he has before that body breaks down.  His next major injury may well be his last.

The amusing thing to me is that there is a fairly young point guard out there that we COULD have had right now who is playing like an all-star, averaging 20 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists on 49% / 45% / 79% shooting.  This guy has net rating of +5, a Box Plus/Minus of 2.6, and a WS/48 of 0.133 right now.  His name is Terry Rozier.

But Danny passed him over for Marcus Smart.  Then passed him over for Kyrie. Then passed him over for Kemba Walker.  Only two of those guys are still with the Cetics, and by pretty much every single metric I can find Rozier is better right now then both of them. *sigh*

Both of them right now respect nobody on the team. Unless they are hot

Maybe Pritchard.

Have you SEEN the guys they have available to pass to?

Marcus Smart has been their top scoring option outside of their "new big 3".  Marcus-freaking-Smart.  One of the worse and most inefficient shooters I've ever seen play at the guard position.  And he's having one of the worst shooting season of his already historically bad NBA shooting career (39% / 31% / 74%). And they don't even have him right now, because he's out.

Hell the rest of the team is so bad that their 4th scoring option is now a rookie point guard with a total of 21 games of NBA experience.

Who are they supposed to pass to?

Well what happened yesterday vs today?

Celts shot 47 percent even with Brown horrific shooting night

Guys like Nesmith only put up 2 shots.   That falls on Brad and Tatum/Brown as leaders to identify this and get him more looks

The ball rarely made it from one end to the other. Hawks had an easier time defending the Celts.

Somebody Needs to show tatum the pass button.

6 assists.

Yes, 6 assists, but they are made from Tatum stopping the ball movement first and often off of drives to the basket. Those type of assists are certainly valuable, but not when they are the bulk of his passing. I think the point of the OP is that Tatum (and Brown and Kemba some as well) do not keep the ball moving within an offensive structure where players are moving and the ball is being rotated around as well as inside/out. When assists come off of being in control of the ball for 6-10 seconds, the result is teammates standing around watching. This group used to be great at keeping the ball moving, but as they became all-stars, they have stopped letting the game come to them. They force too much. Some of that is also on the coaches.
The Four Celtic Generals:
Russell - Cowens - Bird - Garnett

The Four Celtic Lieutenants:
Cousy - Havlicek - McHale - Pierce

+1

Back to old bad habits. Vs the ball movement from last night game. From the Raptors game

Having the ball in Tatum’s hands is the best option in these types of games. No Kemba? No Smart? There’s no other playmaker other than Brown. Teague is trash, Pritchard can’t make clean entry passes, and there’s no other ball handler on the team.

After Kemba/Smart/Tatum/Brown, the next best passer/playmaker on the team miiiiiight be Timelord. Or maybe Grant Williams. Isn’t that just sad?
