Choose one

There are several members that would rather keep Theis over TL. Which is surprising

If both will cost full MLE and you could only keep one for the forseeable future, who would it be?

What's long term? I like Theis. But Wiliiams has far greater potential to impact games in the post-season as he continues to grow.

I think Williams has a far greater ceiling then Theis, but I am not sure if he ever gets there.

I am happy with the Floor of Theis (which at this point is how he is playing now) and would be happy to roll with that.

That's why I picked Theis.

I’m one of those who has argued that keeping theis may make more sense.
On both sides of the ball he is a terrific fit in the c’s system.
I also think his value to the c’s is higher than his perceived value around the league.
Timelord, otoh, has tremendous upside, but he is still learning and his on court value is lower than theis (consistency is key).
In a league that covets upside he is more valuable as a trade asset.
Then Timelord goes out and has a game like last night. He made mistakes, but he exhibits so much talent, I start dreaming about what a fully actualized version would do for this team. (I mean come on, a center with his instincts, passing, athleticism, jumpshot and vertical impact, paired with JB and JD, is a championship contender for a decade).
But will he put it together?
Would a player he brings back help this team break through ?
Tough call

Against the raptors in the playoffs last season. Dont think team would win the series without TL

Even vs Heat they should have played TL more. Bam  had more huddles to jump over.

Brad was convinced that Theis would pull Bam out from the interior. It barely happened

Even if TL cant pull it all together

I mean both Theis and TL are role bigs

Both should not be true starters

As a role big off the bench, I like TL utility more than what Theis can provide

If Theis is not a starting C in the NBA, more then half the teams in the NBA do not have a starting caliber center.

Disagree

There are only a few teams hurting for a proper center right now. Like Raptors and Bulls

Most other teams have starting caliber centers.  And they are better than Theis imo. Like Richuan Holmes. Plumlee. Poetl. Capela etc

This is a win-now or win-later proposition.  It's hard to answer.

I think the smart move is to keep Theis and try to exchange the promise / allure of Robert Williams for a player or two who can help now.

The Celts have their young stars locked up.  They've got to maximize their chances every single year from now until Jaylen hits UFA.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

Timelord.

The potential is there.  Just need more time to foster it.  I wouldn't give up on him.  He really seems like he's take a step forward this season and having the game come to him more.

I may have to side with Theis on this one. Yes, Williams is oozing with talent and is supremely athletic. However, when it come to reliability and being on the court, its not even close.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
This is a strange thread to start after I just explained that I would like to keep Theis and TL (and deal Thompson) in the Nuggets thread. It is entirely possible to keep both of them - and there is no reason not to - as they both bring different strengths to the table.

After the season, sign Theis to MLE-level money on a longer-term contract. If you want to keep TT around for insurance, then feel free. He is only signed through 2022 anyway, which is exactly when TL will be a RFA.
