I chose TPE and a pick only because there was no choice for none.

Barnes really isn’t a game-changer. I’d rather use the Hayward TPE on a star this summer.

Yeah I mostly feel the same way, but if we were to trade the TPE this season Barnes is a decent fit. He’s in a slump now so maybe we could buy low a little bit. The TPE plus a protected pick.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I've refrained from voting in the poll cause I'm not even sure I'd give up a first for him. On second thought, I'd only pull the trigger if the deal involved Kemba (I guess it would have to be a 3-way). Imo, you guys massively overvalue Barnes. He ain't worth 20 million a year. Rule of thumb is that overpaid players on long-term contacts have negative trade value. A few months ago, Kings fans were willing to throw in a pick in order to get rid of Barnes. Sure, he's having a nice individual season, but he ain't a difference maker. He'd be a role player in our system. You guys would sacrifice multiple assets for an overpaid role player? With all due respect, this is ridiculous.

I generally agree with you, but his contract does decrease over the next couple of years: $20M for 21-22, and $18M for 22-23. I wouldn't want to give up much, but I would do one 1st as well as whatever minor pieces it would take to get under the tax. If we were giving up Thompson, he might even be able to be re-routed to a 3rd team which lessens what we give up to SAC. Not sure TT is worth a 1st to anybody, but that could even save us from giving up a 1st.

Harrison Barnes should fit really well with our team and meet our primary need, which is a switchable forward who has size (6'8", 6'11" wingspan) that is a good 3 point shooter (40% this season, 38% career) who can also take it to the cup, decent passer (3.5 assists per game this season), gets to the line (4 attempts per game) and makes them (80%), averaging 6 rebounds per game, is on a fair contract, that gets better over the next two seasons.

He is about the same size as Tatum.  You can play him with Tatum (each of them playing 3/4 position), or when Tatum sits (where Barnes would be the 4, and Brown can play the 3).  I love guys who play hybrid.  I think Danny is trying to assemble a team of hybrids.  Tatum is a 3/4 hybrid, Brown is a 2/3 hybrid. Smart is a 1/2/3 hybrid. Romeo is a 2/3 hybrid, Nesmith is a 2/3 hybrid. Theis is a 4/5 hybrid. Pritchard is a 1/2 hybrid.  It gives us so many options.    I think the most valuable hybrids are 3/4 hybrids.

I don't want another 4/5 hybrid (e.g. Collins) because they tend to be weaker defensively, too slow to cover 3/4 power forwards, and too small to cover big centers.  I also feel he would take minutes away from Rob Williams, especially if we kept Theis.

For those thinking Barnes isn't good enough, but wish we had kept Hayward, they're eerily similar players.

Barnes is a 28yp 6'8, 225lb, SF/PF.  For his career, he is a 13.8 PPG, 5.0 RPG, 1.7 APG 450 FG%, and 377 3PT%
Hayward is a 31yo 6'7", 225, SF/PF.  For his career, he is a 15.6 PPG, 4.4 RPG, 3.5 APG, 453 FG%, 369 3PT%

I guess, I'd add Barnes to this Celtics team, specially if people keep saying, wish we had Hayward.

Nah. Hayward’s peak is noticeably higher than Barnes’. I’ll take Hayward’s playmaking and defense over Barnes’ .008 superior 3 point shooting.

Hayward not available. Plus he makes $28.5 mm. Plus he wants to be the man. Barnes would fit in better. And I’m a big Hayward fan.

All true.  Hayward is an alpha who is just more comfortable being a lead guy.  Barnes has accepted a secondary role on multiple teams.
