I have seen this recently on Twitter from the Celtic beat writers.

It has cause him to be fatigued earlier in some games.

Is there any Celtic out there that is close to being healthy and useful?

Celtics should rest Tatum or sit him for b2b

He did look "off"  these past 3 games

I have read that there are long lasting effects of covid. Being an elite athlete even a small reduction in lung capacity can really slow you down. John Havlicek had some freak lung capacity that allowed him to run all day. It's one of the things that made him great.

https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/30912183/boston-celtics-jayson-tatum-says-feeling-effects-covid-19

"Since returning on Jan. 25 in Chicago, his numbers have been noticeably lower than they were before he got sick. In the 10 games Tatum played before sitting out, he averaged 26.9 points on 47.4% shooting overall and 43.8% from 3-point range. In the 11 games he's played since returning, he's averaging 24.5 points per game on 42.7% shooting overall and 36.5% from 3-point range."

I said as much in a thread after the last fiasco that I thought he had long-haul COVID and this certainly sounds like it. Fatigue (and likely brain fog too though he doesn't mention it.) This will take 12 weeks to go away and it's not well-studied yet. See link below.

You wouldn't know it by the way that Brad has used him since he returned.

Can he do damage by pushing his stamina or does it help his lungs recover?

HBO's Real Sports did a segment on COVID "long haulers" a couple of weeks ago.  Young, peak condition athletes (mostly female) who have been reduced to couch potatoes with no end in sight.

The long term after effects of this virus are almost as scary as the death count.

There was a study on college age football players who had covid, many of which had no symptoms, and 30% of them ended up with cardiac scarring. Nobody really knows if it's permanent.

That also doesn't even account for those who get lung damage. It is pretty scary.

Covid long hauler here. 7 months later I am just starting to get back to exercising and pushing my exertion limits.

Of course, I'm 55 not 23, but, as Redz said, there has been a few studies done on college athlete long haulers and the results for such athletes is tons of down time and gradual resumption of physical activity.

Let's hope it doesn't come to this for Tatum, but, I have to say a felt good for a couple weeks after recovering before some effects started to hit me on the long haul side. This could be why we are seeing a gradual reduction of Tatum's condition. Hope not. Hope he will get back to 100% health soon.

Just want to say out loud what everyone feels:

COVID FREAKING SUCKS AND I CAN'T WAIT FOR IT TO GO AWAY!

On a side note, how are you doing now? I hope things are better  :)

Also have you been able to get vaccinated yet?

This is unsurprising (doesn't detract from how alarming it is though). KAT has said the same things - it's what took him so long to get back. It's also what has kept Timelord's minutes down.
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

I'm doing much better. I had to basically do nothing strenuous for the last 4+ months but have been getting back to exercising, slowly but surely.

Regarding the vaccine, I live in Florida and right now it's front line medical workers and 65+ only. My guess is the next group will be first responders and essential personnel and maybe my age group. But for now, I am not eligible, or so my doctor keeps telling me.

MMA fighter, Khamzat Chimaev, is reportedly having a tough time recovering too. His fight next month had to be scrapped because he is having a hard time getting through proper training.

"He wanted to train. We tried, and it failed, he was really bad. He didn’t even do two rounds straight, he did one round and then rested."

I wonder if it affected Cam Newton as well.  He supposedly didn’t have any symptoms, but he played like crap after returning.  Small lasting effects of it could have made a huge difference.

I am a little over two weeks removed from onset of symptoms, and after going through it all and knowing how I still feel, I can’t believe how quickly some of these players get back on the court after being symptomatic.

I was just told by a doctor last night that headaches, lethargy, gastro issues, etc can last MONTHS in some instances. Granted, that’s usually not the case for world class athletes, but still.

No surprise at all Tatum doesn’t feel like himself yet.
