Woj just tweeted that Griffin will likely stop playing until the Pistons either work out a trade or buy him out.

Quote
"After extensive conversation with Blake's representatives, it has been determined that we will begin working to facilitate a resolution regarding his future with the team that maximizes the interests of both parties," Weaver told ESPN on Monday. "We respect all the effort Blake has put forth in Detroit and his career and will work to achieve a positive outcome for all involved."

If he makes it to the buyout market, it'll be interesting to see where he ends up. I think he still has value offensively as a guy who can play make a little and get you a bucket every now and then.

SG: OG Anunoby/Norman Powell/Matisse Thybulle

Making $37 million this season, players option for $39 million next season - who's trading for that?

Yeah, it's probably the worst (or one of the worst) contracts in the NBA. I could see them stretching him. Or another team with incredible cap room that doesn't expect to compete for a few years could take him on (incentivized by draft picks) and then subsequently stretch him.

He had a pretty good season for Detroit in 2018-19.  24.5 pts on about 18 shots plus 7.5 rebs, 5.5 assists.  Then there was the surgery in Jan 2020 and he clearly has not been the same and may not ever be the same.  I agree that no one is going to trade for him without Detroit attaching picks or something so this will likely have to be a buy out.  Not sure how that works.  Would Griffin really be willing to give back the option year just to get out of Detroit?  Seems unlikely.  Would Detroit just pay him for two seasons but let him go title chase somewhere?  Not a great deal for Detroit.

I have not seen Griffin play this year so I don't know how he looks in terms of his knee.  Kind of eerily similar to Kemba's situation only worse in terms of the drop off in production.

Trading Kemba for Blake would be the only option but the question would be Blake Griffin and what?  A pick?  Kemba may help Detroit to be half decent but does Detroit want to be half decent?

omg I didn't know he was making that much.  That contract should require 2 first round picks to move.
That is horrible.

Would definitely pick him up for the Minimum if he gets bought out. He's a big who can shoot.

I’d argue there’s a good chunk of posters secretly hoping Cs do considering some of the trade threads I’ve seen recently.

Only way I’d consider Griffin at this point is if he gets bought out for like free. He can’t be worse than trotting out G Williams all the time.
