Collins is an interesting target.  Exactly what we need.  PF who can shoot.  Young, on the upswing.  All good.  The trades discussed, based around Smart, are reasonable value.  For ATL to even consider it means they don't want to pay him and that is what troubles me.  Is it that ATL doesn't want to pay him or has he told them he doesn't want to sign with them.

If we trade for him, it is only a good trade if we are able to sign him.  He will be a RFA but signing him will mean tax (which is likely in any case I guess).  Seems like the perfect player to team with Tatum and Brown.

I wonder if we are offering Smart and they are asking for Brown or something like that.  It is not clear what ATL really needs.  They have star PG.  They just signed a SG (Bogdanovic).  Hunter and Huerter are decent wings.  Capela and Gallinari are good bigs.  I wonder why they signed Gallinari?  They could have saved the money for Collins.  Maybe that is why Collins is miffed.

Ship 'em Aaron Nesmith, Grant Williams, Romeo Langford, Jeff Teague, and two picks for John Collins and Rajon Rondo.

Get a PF that will fit in our system and a reliable championship-proven veteran PG who can start or provide depth.

I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

Harrison Barnes is a better fit for us than Collins. And should cost less. And better salary control.

I’m not a big Collins guy. He’s a 4/5 that doesn't seem to excel in either role with ATL. Which is why they traded for a center and drafted another.  He will be replaced at the 4 by the Virginia kid. Future 3/4 star.

The future of the NBA is multiple 3/4s and 2/3s. 4/5s struggle. Anthony Davis is the exception.

Barnes is a 3/4. He just fits better for us.

so, the practice now is to not even try to explain the trade to anyone?

It was something like this but the link didn't work.

"Ship 'em Aaron Nesmith, Grant Williams, Romeo Langford, Jeff Teague, and two picks for John Collins and Rajon Rondo.

Why explain it? Best, most logical trade idea here in months. Haters can come at me, but this puppy is bulletproof!

What do you mean by “doesn’t seem to excel”?  Collins is a 20 / 10 guy on excellent efficiency.

I’ve been kinda surprised he hasn’t been pushing for Boogie this year (considering they shipped Harden).

No, not quite.  He’s not as dominant.  I do think he’d be close to perfect for us.  A 23 year old 20 / 10 guy is hard to find.

I also like Barnes and Oladipo, though.

I pushed for him pre-season.  Right now we’re set at center, and I don’t think Boogie wants to leave Wall.  But if we have an opening, I’d take him.

That's fair. I admit, I haven't seen enough of Collins to have an opinion one way or the other. I'm curious as to why Atlanta didn't want to commit max money to him.

Hawks peach tree blog said ATL entertaining offers for Collins now!!

Williams, Smart, two #1s

for

Collins, Dunn, Snell

☘️☘️☘️

Seems reasonable for a productive and efficient player that would fit nicely here.

My one concern is that Ainge might try to lowball offer for a player that will probably have a number of teams after him.
