To BOS: Lonzo Ball, Reddick, Melli
To PEL: Kemba, ‘21 1st, and ‘23 1st (may have to throw in a 2nd to seal the deal?)

https://tradenba.com/trades/nXZKG9-e6

Why we do it: Get our pass-first/defensive PG with his RFA rights, and a couple of pieces to help with our run this year. Additionally, clean cut with Kemba and only see him two times per year in the future (unless he’s injured 1-2 of those games). If Pritchard becomes the real deal, Lonzo will be a tradeable asset that the Hornets will overvalue (we may recoup picks, but better ones). We also get nice pieces to help with our run this year. Also, the last names of our starters in the backcourt would spell Smart Ball, so how can we pass up those marketing opportunities?

Why New Orleans does it: More picks for their rebuild post-AD and a potent 1-2 PG punch in Kemba and Bledsoe.

We’d have to move Edwards and Green for top-55 protected seconds that expire if they do not convey:

Ball/Teague/Pritchard
Smart/Reddick/Langford
Brown/Nesmith
Tatum/Theis/Ojeyele/G. Williams
TT/Williams/Melli

Kemba doesn't fit NO timeline, they aren't making the playoffs this year. Ball should be cheap as NO isn't going to resign him. Edwards or Green and a 1st round pick.

We will not be the only bidders for Lonzo’s RFA rights. He’s the perfect PG for Brown and Tatum. A couple of picks in the upper/mid 20s (hopefully 30) is small potatoes to dump Kemba and secure Ball.

He really doesn't though. Can't shoot consistently and can't play off ball at all. A genuine 3 & D guy at the point is probably best moving forward.

I’d love Lonzo. Kemba has made things harder for Jaylen and put him back in the corner. I’d love a guy like Lonzo who’s a great defender and doesn’t waste a dribble.

Why? Value wise? Or you just don't like Lonzo?

I don't mind this trade at all.

Kemba is the best player in the deal and you are attaching multiple picks for the corpse of JJ Redick and Lonzo Ball. I don’t hate ball but the Cs lose this trade by a lot.

Kemba 2021 is not pre-2021 Kemba? Regardless of whether Kemba is or is not the best player in the trade, he’s a max player yet Lonzo is a much better fit both age-wise and play-wise. Ball can be the number three guy in a Big Three with the Jays. It’s not easy finding a pass-first PG who can defensively lockdown folks almost as well as Smart, who might have to be moved next year. If Smart won’t re-sign and we have to deal him next year, perhaps we can transition to Pritchard at PG and Ball at SG without missing a beat. Can’t do that with Kemba and Pritchard, and it’s hard to avoid the luxury line with Kemba maxed out.

If Lonzo Ball is your #3 guy, your team is not a contender.

He's also only a good passer on the break

Exactly. His half court game leaves a lot to be desired. He's not a floor general/maestro like Rondo was back in the day. I think people here have a view of him that isn't really in line with the player he currently is.

To dump Kemba and secure the services of a 23 year-old pass-first defensive PG who might be a great fit with Stevens and Co. Kemba might never recover so we need to offset that risk with 1-2 picks. Considering we have the Jays locked up in 2023, very confident neither pick will be in the lottery, so they’re not that valuable (for every Pritchard, there’s how many James Young’s and Dancing Bears?)
