I once started a thread about cutting Daniel Theis. That was a sarcastic joke, at a time when I felt Theis was deserving of more minutes instead of sometimes receiving a DNP on his game chart.

But I feel his time at the Celtics is ending. Unfortunately it looks like he doesn't provide enough skills to play the power forward position adequately and at center both Thompson and Rob Williams look better. Besides that, Theis is looking for a new and likely bigger contract in the off-season and that's why for me he's a prime trade candidate.

Nothing against Theis, but instead of watching him walk in free agency or overpaying him it's probably in our best interest to trade him since there's not a clear role for him with the Celtics in the future.

If you traded him it would only make sense if it was for another big. You need the depth at that position. If Timelord takes his minutes that is good news. But you need Theis at the end of the bench still.
Waking up from a slumber to misunderstand another.

I'd only trade him for an upgrade at PF. I'm not sure of ATL's plans with Collins, but would we have interest in matching whatever FA offer he gets if we traded for him? Of course Theis isn't enough, and isn't even required since we have the Kanter TPE, but I am in no rush to trade Theis. I also don't think he will break the bank next season...especially if he keeps up at his current pace.

His fit isn't perfect, but injuries happen. I don't think it's necessarily a crime to have 3 quality bigs to throw at opponents - especially when each of them have different strengths. I agree, though, he's not playing so hot as a strictly perimeter player.

i would caution against writing him off after one bad game - which is something many here tend to do. He was excellent last season for what they're paying him.  And right now he's an expiring contract.

He's of more value to the Celtics than anyone else given his contract situation.

Yeah, he’s struggling playing next to TT and it has messed up his game.  Plus, Timelord keeps playing better.

If we could get Aaron Gordon for Theis, Nesmith or Langford, and a first rounder... and of course the TPE,  would people here go for that?  I think I would.  Not sure about Orlando.

What’s the return?

I wouldn’t trade him just to trade him.  We need his depth right now.

The real issue is that we have three adequate centers, but no consistent PFs.

Yeah, I switch TIMELORD and Theis. Start TIMELORD and bring Theis off the bench. I would love to see TIMELORD on that jump ball at the start of the game._

Why?  That would make our team significantly worse.

when has that ever stifled a trade proposal here?

at least it is a change from the ever popular "let's trade a poo-poo of celtics players for that star player" we usually see.

The quick simple answer is no. We don't need anymore 2nd round picks.

Considering Timelord's propensity to get injured, I'd probably lean on keeping him for insurance. But, he's also a upcoming FA on a non guaranteed deal. He could net a decent wing player for the bench. I wouldnt trade him just to trade him.

I do think starting off the year playing against more perimeter players has given him fits offensively and defensively. It's no surprise tonight that he looks good with him playing the lone big man spot with TT out.
