Tatum shouldn’t be avoiding contact which he has the first two games, but let’s remember he averaged 7.2 free throws per game in the playoffs last season.  He probably just needs to get into the flow of the season.  There seems to be a pattern of him starting slowly.

Hopefully. It took a little extra time to get started once the bubble started

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I hate almost everything about Tatum's game so far this season (even his game winner - down by just 1 - was such a garbage shot), but it's early and we've seen this from him before. He probably should have gotten a couple of and-1s, but he looks a bit lazy and entitled right now. We really need him to become aggressive Tatum again, because that Tatum - with his size and skill - is almost unstoppable. I'll worry more in a month if he's still playing like this, but I'll just assume he is ramping up for now.

I guess some of the (best) players of the bubble/playoff are not at the same level yet and with such a short ofseason it is understandable. I mean, for different reason (physical or mental), Giannis, LBJ, Murray, Booker, Adebayo, Van Vleet and Tatum don't begin the season the same way they ended. Whatever I don't care if he isn't 100% mentally in now and I am sure he has learned a lot with his last year eclosion. Esp that his weapon in PO are not the one you can stop with an higher intenisity/shemas of PO, because he has Durant material and only himself may reduce his shine.

Obviously not...and you can't anyway since he signed his extension. He's our guy and we're going to roll with him; but it's okay to criticize the way he's been playing. He's shown flashes of being a superstar and now fans expect more consistency. I'm confident he'll get there.

Of course you can criticize him, but I don't think entitlement is really one of them.

it took tatum until the all-star break last year to get going. hopefully it doesnt take as long this year.

but I wouldnt use a two game sample as proof of anything.

I’m not sure that is something to be celebrated.

Definitely not. One of my main arguments as to why Tatum is not yet a superstar is that he doesn't get foul calls like a superstar. These two games are an extreme example, but you can be sure that LeBron, Durant, Harden, Leonard, etc., are not going to go two straight games (probably not even one game) without getting to the line.
