I'm sorry, why do we need Harden again?

We already excel in the regular season and fall short in the playoffs...

Because our main issue in the playoffs was Kemba and replacing him with Kemba we will have a better chance of getting over the hump.

Kemba was getting out matched by Lowery and Dragic by along shot aside from the knee issues, he just looked completely all around out played.

We don’t need Harden to step up in the playoffs, we need Tatum, Brown, and Smart to. We just don’t need whomever to get outmatched from their opposition.

Terry Rozier never had this problem...

T. Rozier
M. Smart
J. Brown/Hayward
J. Tatum
T. Thompson

This should have been our team. This is a team that would improve every year and you wouldn’t have to worry about the starting line up. Brown should have just been the dominant 6th man and called it a day. He would easily come in and destroy the other teams bench unit if you let Hayward start.

didnt we already have a disgruntled superstar with poor reputation in boston? didnt work out so well with Kyrie Irving.

Jaylen brown looks like an all-star. no way do I want to trade the future for a 32 year old ball hog who by all purposes is a HORRIBLE team-mate.

has anyone pushing for this read the stories about Harden? or just looking at his stats. Here is a guy who PUSHED Chris Paul and Russell Westbrook out the door. A guy who doesnt show up to practices, film sessions and who appears to care more about partying than the game. And a guy who despite Houston bending over backwards for him still wants out...and a guy who has faltered in the playoffs every year and is now on the wrong end of 30

this is who the celtics would want to blow up their roster for?

Step back and think about the question at hand:

Is a talented wing who’s 24 and played out his rookie contract without an all-star appearance worth trading with a number of our first-round picks for an MVP, first-ballot HOFer who is 31 and coming off three straight scoring titles? BTW, Harden had more assists last year than all but six players, too (second most among non-PGs, behind only Doncic if you consider LeBron a PG). I know a lot of us live on the east coast, so really only get to watch the Rockets twice per year against us, but Harden is perhaps the best offensive player of his generation. And he’s still only 31 and hungry for a title so he does not join Malone, Stockton, Miller and Ewing.

Now if the Rockets insist on including Smart, that’s a different question because we need a backcourt where the best defender is always handled by Smart so Harden can focus his energies winning his fourth straight scoring title, and hopefully averaging a double-double as a PG again.

Frankly, everyone but Tatum and Smart should be on the table. Let us know, Houston. We’re ready for Harden.

Frankly, I’m sick of hearing that Brown looks like an all-star. Until he has an all-star appearance, he’s not an all-star.

If Harden is a “ball hog,” how did he manage to have more assists than all but one non-PG last season? As for his issues with Paul and Westbrook, maybe the issue is that Harden started his basketball career as a PG and maybe he just wants to go back to being a PG? I can definitely understand not being pleased working with Westbrook for a variety of reasons. This issue with Paul may have been his penchant for injuries and being almost 35 at the time of the trade for Westbrook.

Saw someone say that Kemba was on the wrong side of 30 the other day. I remember a time when that phrase meant 35 and up.

I’m not saying I’m clamoring for a Harden trade, but it’s unfair to bring up the Kyrie debacle but not the success of AD or Kawhi. Both pouted, put their teams and fans through the ringer, demanded trades, and both won titles. Kawhi left - but won Toronto it’s only ring. Obviously AD wanted LA and resigned there. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.

For the Harden skeptics - man is a walking playoff berth. Houston competed legitimately in the West against one of the greatest team runs of all time (Golden State). He doesn’t miss games. His situation as the one-man-show is at least as much Morey’s fault for allowing that situation to develop. If those Houston teams played in the East they might’ve made the finals each one of those years, who knows. They’ve been an excellent team.

This is a good point. There was lots of nonsense associated with Kawhi & AD. Kawhi and his doctor in New York, AD with his 'That's All Folks' shirt. The Kyrie one is often gone to because of its relevance, but there are instances of success too.

If he wants to come here, and we can do it without losing Brown or Tatum, I'd be all aboard

I believe I read somewhere that in order from any deal to happen a third or even fourth team would need to get involved. To me that signals teams are willing to give up some value but not the players Houston desires. Like Simmons in Philly or Brown in Boston. Houston wants them but are probably being offered Tobias Harris and Kemba Walker instead.

In the end it will likely still be a substantial package needed to get Harden, but I expect it to be less than what New Orleans got for Davis and OKC for George.

I'm a bit surprised that Philadelphia doesn't want to trade Simmons. And Miami doesn't offer Adebayo. Even Denver apparently doesn't want to give up Porter Jr. Then Boston rightfully so says why should we offer Brown then?

the thing about players like Harden that draw fouls at a high rate is that they not only get to the foul line but they get their teammates to the free throw line also while getting the other team's players in foul trouble too.

Celtics should relish the fact that Harden has the Cs on his list. This guy is a tremendous player. If he wants to be a Celtic, you probably have to make it happen.

I love Jaylen Brown, but Jaylen can not go out and get 44 AND 17 on 54% from the field and 40% from 3 while shooting  87% from the line. Let alone win in that effort against a playoff team.

That isn't remotely close to Jaylen's ceiling. Jaylen has developed into a good scorer and defender, but I'm sorry there's no chance that he develops the ballhandling and playmaking that Harden has.

Brown only has one more extra year on his contract. Granted Harden has a player option, but what he brings to this team is the ability to both attract more stars and honestly the ability to take us to a championship.

At some point Cs will have to decide whether they want to win NBA championships or groom gentlemen that all their fans approve.
