In hindsight I suspect Danny wouldn’t do the trade.
At the time, though, I think Danny was banking on either Hayward coming back, or taking back substantial salary in a sign-and-trade. Kanter’s salary looked like it would hinder the team. It might have prevented us from using the full MLE, etc.
I think that with a longer off-season, Danny waits.
Of course, this is all blown apart by Memphis’ trade of Kanter to Portland for cash and Mario H’s minimum salary.
good post, beat me to it (money!!) as well as doing a better job of writing about it.
i think it would be nice to have bane, but in the end, ainge had a lot of moving parts that affected a very tight salary situation. he did not know for sure who would opt in or out. so, he compromised (i am guessing) on keeping his "salary-powder-dry" and let bane go.
i liked bane as well. but honestly, he would have been one of three rookies and how many second year guys? i dont think he would have made that big of a difference that we should collectively be wailing, tearing our sack clothes, and gnashing our teeth....too much.

ainge was smart enough to take pritchard, which i did NOT agree with at the time, and we still have to wait and see on him.
edwards...sigh...he was my binkie in terms of "underdog wins out!" but i am not seeing anything so far from him. sigh.
