If only the Bucks hadn't traded a gazillion picks for Holiday... I bet Giannis would have re-signed with them anyway and they'd still have their future picks. They'd also be #1 favorites to trade for Harden. Worst case scenario, they could have overpaid for a guy like Holiday at the trade deadline.

I don't think they had the pieces to get Harden. They gave up Bledsoe (31 years old) and picks that project to be late 1st round. That package wasn't cutting it for Harden. Not when Miami and Philly have significantly younger players to include.
Middleton + gazillion picks for Harden (not an option anymore)

If the Rockets are willing to take vets over picks, the Bucks would have been the clear favorites to acquire Harden. I mean, the Spurs wanted vets over picks when they traded Kawhi. Not to mention, the Rockets just traded for Wall who's fit and ready to play. It's not like they are about to start tanking.

Rockets have already leaked multiple times that they want a young star in return for Harden. The Spurs and Rockets are in entirely different situations in terms of what their ideal return package is, and I think we're seeing now with the Spurs why it's sometimes better to go for the rebuild instead of trying to stay afloat.
This ain't no news. Everybody wants a young star. I bet the Spurs would have opted for Jaylen Brown over DeRozan if Danny were willing to trade him.

You can't possibly know that. I guess their ideal return is Simmons, but the Sixers might not be willing to trade him.

I think this means Miami is all in on Harden now that Giannis is out of reach as a FA.

Herro/salary filler and picks/swaps for Harden will be Miami's offer.  I actually hope it happens. I don't see Butler and Harden playing nice in the sandbox.

Houston will ask for Bam but I don't see Riley giving up Bam.

Bam is hard to trade because he just signed his extension, so there's the poison pill provision to work around. Dragic also can't be traded until February.

Miami right now can offer Herro/Duncan/Nunn/Iggy/Olynyk assuming Harden waives his trade kicker. That's not awful. That's not great either. I like Herro enough to prefer this package over Brooklyn's pu pu platter, though.

The remaining Miami team would feature Dragic/Harden/Jimmy/Bam as the core with decent complementary pieces in Avery Bradley and Mo Harkless.
2021 Houston Rockets
PG: Kyrie Irving/Patty Mills/Jalen Brunson
SG: OG Anunoby/Norman Powell/Matisse Thybulle
SF: Gordon Hayward/Demar Derozan
PF: Giannis Antetokounmpo/Robert Covington
C: Kristaps Porzingis/Bobby Portis/James Wiseman

Lakers offered a package similar to what they ended up offering for AD. Spurs could've had Ingram, but Pop didn't want to deal him to LA and wanted a vet, 20-point scorer in his place to stay in the playoff picture. In retrospect, it was a mistake. They're stuck in no man's land: too good to complete bottom out for high picks, but not good enough to actually compete in the West.

Going for a decent-ish All-Star who's maxed out his ceiling and isn't good enough to be a franchise guy is a good way to end up in the same situation.

He's my Modern Day Kevin Garnett

In terms of talent, defense, total game, fire, determination, LOYALTY, OLD-SCHOOL--------

Just don't headbutt NBA stancions, don't talk to yourself on the court and don't start the dusty handclapping that KG did at the start of games....

Don't talk about Bar Fights...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2JHV5pZQpoc

LOOL KG is ONE OF A KIND............I love that dude.

Just do YOU, Giannis....and KEEP doing it.

So glad Greek Freak's not giving up on Milwaukee and sticking it out....just like KG did in Minny...it all worked out for HIM, in the end - and he was welcomed BACK in Minny with open arms for STICKING IT OUT...............

I don't have issues with modern players that "Team Up" but I do love it when the Super Stars stay - and keep fighting.

I think MIL is now my 2nd favorite team.

So he'll request a trade in two years now?

So he'll request a trade in two years now?

That's a cynical way to look at it. But he really seems to want to be there and isn't just playing the media game like other stars.

Less about him personally and more about just how things seem to work in the league these days.  I hope he stays.  Call me old fashioned but I like seeing guys play for one team throughout their career.

Really shocked by this, arguably the best player in the NBA committing to a low market team for the prime of his career.
I wonder if the BAM extension was the final driver for him to do this? Miami being unable to afford him that is.

Regardless really happy for Giannis and the Bucks, loyalty in today's NBA in non-existent especially to a team like the Bucks. Really a class act move for a player who could have created the next super team of his choice in a major market.

I'm not shocked at all.

Giannis was a supporter of the Bam extension and reports were stated that he wouldn't have considered Miami if they DIDN'T give Bam the extension.

Regardless, Miami still had the room to sign Giannis next year. This was the right move. Well done to Giannis and well done to the Bucks.

I forgot the poison pill with Bam's extension, but nothing says Houston has to trade Harden this season. They can be patient and lord knows that Harden's mood in mercurial, he may play with Wall and Cousins and decide to stay in Houston.

This isn’t that shocking imo. Pretty in line with his personality. Big win for the Bucks. Big win for Giannis.

Giannis and Bam have same agent. I’m betting Heat knew that GA would sign before they extended Bam.

I guess this mindset sums up the state of the current NBA. That we are shocked (disappointed?) that loyalty still exists and an elite player would rather stay in a small market that he’s happy in and try to beat all the other stars, not join them.

20+ years ago, this was the norm. Now, it’s shocking.

As much as I'd love to have Giannis on the Celtics, if he can't be here, I'd rather he stay in Milwaukee, as I consider the Bucks a classic franchise, and the people of Milwaukee and Wisconsin deserve a good team.

Plus, the Lakers and Heat lose out, lol.
