Let's Talk Teague

I don't see a thread devoted to the Teague signing and I guess I understand why. He's not very exciting but he might be the perfect pickup for this team.

A veteran, steady hand to lead the second unit. He's been on the decline and his numbers were all over the place last season between two lottery teams but he's got playoff experience and I think he's an upgrade. On a one-year deal he'll be a nice bridge to when Payton Pritchard is (hopefully) ready for more.

Think we needed an extra ball handlers off the bench and kind of showed in the playoffs and Teague is still a two way player.

Think the signing fills a need and with Thompson adds more toughness to this team. Really could turn out a better deal then just getting Turner and McDermott

Teague fits right in that space of able to start if Kemba is out, but also able to bench if Pritchard shows real promise. On a cheap one-year deal, he is completely waivable if he becomes a problem (not anticipated); but he is also of the age where he should be happy to be on a contender rather than a bottom-feeder like Minny.

I like the pick-up, think he should provide at least as much production as Wana, and like that he is a former all-star who has had success in this league while also not expecting to be the lead guy.

I like that Teague has a lot of veteran experience.  This team felt too youthful the past couple of seasons.  A steady hand like Teague on the second unit could really help us, especially when it comes to playoffs time. 

Thompson has championship experience so he just adds to that mix.  I think DA got a couple of high character vets who will help us not just with their skills but also their proven playoff experience.

Tt and teague pick and rolls with nesmith spacing the floor.

Spots 6-8 are so much improved on this upcoming seasons roster compared to last years.

so having four such players is even better.

brown has more playoff games (61) than teague.

smart has more playoff games (62) than teague.

so having four such players is even better.

TP, I was just going to post something like this.
But it would be 5 since JT has 45 playoff games too.
MS, JB, JT, TT, JeffT all with a lot of Playoff experience.

It is like we are a veteran team in playoff experience, but a young team in age / years.
Kind of an oddity.

Not ideal to waive your BAE. Only comes around once every couple years. Agree very low risk signing though.

Teague is no longer an NBA quality player (worst player on bad Hawks team).  Waters is a lot better than him at this point

So, he can't help in games, but he can help in practice.  similar to Cassell in 2008.

I have to go out on a limb here and say that Teague will play more than waters this year. _

I think the only way Waters is back with the team is if no one else wants him. They drafted a guy who does what he does and is a far better scorer.  That tells you what they think of him.

As for Teague, he's going to be counted on to score.  Last year in Min he was 2 pts off his career average playing slightly fewer minutes than he did when he was playing his best in Atlanta.  Unfortunately he fell off a cliff once he went to the Hawks - I saw him against the C's in Feb and he stunk.

But I think that fact he's going to be counted on to play well and the Celtics being a much better team should mean he'll be decent. 32 is not too old so he should have something left in the tank.
