Grade 2020 Celtics draft

First, I grade this poll a C. Whoever created it pretty much didn't like the draft picks to begin with.

Second, the Cs get a "B" for the draft. They got solid players for the positions they were picking in. There werent any wacky picks like Fab Melo that were just wasted draft picks. They got players that can actually contribute. I like the Nesmith pick. If it was just that, then an A. But the other players... meh. Would have preferred the Cs traded the pick for future picks.

I am not going to downgrade the draft because the Celtics couldn't trade up to get a player that posters desire. It takes two to tango and I refuse to believe that Ainge didn't do all he could to trade up into the lottery and get a "better" prospect. So there is that.

And after seeing what elite shooting can do for a team in the ECFs, I actually love the Nesmith pick. He is one inch shorter than Duncan Robinson and one inch taller than Tyler Herro. Neither are great athletes or defenders, like Nesmith. Heck, Nesmith might be a better athlete than both. So if those two players can have the type of difference making roles on Miami because of their shooting, I can't wait to see what that type of shooting can do for Boston.

My best friend is an Assistant Athletic Director for a Division 1 school in California. He saw Pritchard play a lot and says Pritchard is going to be someone the fans love immediately. Think J.J. Barea or TJ McConnell with excellent shooting. I can get down with that.

I also like they shed Pourier's contract with #30. Ainge was never going to add 4 rookies to camp or even 3 rookies on the roster. So what he did with #30 and #47 is alright by me.

Sadly for some on this board, I think this means Waters and Edwards are gone. Can't see either being on the team next season with much better shooting and much better sized rookies coming in.

So A- or B+ for me.

Isn't Nesmith actually a good defender? Most scouting reports I've read have been very positive about his defence (yes he lacks top-end explosiveness, but he has good size and length for a wing.

Yeah, he is. Really good team defender, uses his long wingspan and strong frame well. Not going to be a 1v1 lockdown, but that isn't all there is

Considering that Hayward was neither of those defensively, I'd take it lol.

I give it a B. Happy with Pritchard. Didn't think we'd draft him, so weird that Pritchard is the player I've seen most of pre-draft and now he's with the Celtics! Nesmith feels a big need, but I'm sceptical.

The players we drafted are really uncharacteristic in comparison with previous years where the focus was on athletic players with a good frame and mentality that showed defensive potential, but needed to learn to shoot from deep.
