initially, was happy with Nesmith after Halliburton was off the board.

wasn't thrilled with Pritchard with Bane still on the board but I'm coming around to think he may be useful.

the 30th pick is a complete mess if Poirier is not going out with that pick and this just ends up being an asset dump for 2 crappy second rounders.

stash pick at 47 does nothing -- can't see this kid ever improving to the point where he'd be worth bringing over.

was hoping to combine a couple of picks to move up for a better choice or at least not waste the last 2 picks.  gave it a C but I was really leaning towards a D.

I will say this, the only disappointing thing is it seemed guys who were either better players or had better upside went just ahead of the c's  at both 14 and 26. Vassel, Lweis Jr, RJ Hampton, Bolmaro. usually that's not an issue but when you have multiple picks and know you can't roster everybody its hard not to see a move up in that situation.

I just want to point out that none of the top 15 picks ended up being traded. It seems like every team was happy with just picking a prospect. Can't really blame Danny when it seems like there was no opportunity to trade up. As far as I'm concerned, we got a really good prospect in Nesmith that fits well with our core guys, and that alone makes this draft a B IMO.

Going into the offseason the areas of need were:

Bench production/shooting
Big man depth

I’d say in the draft they drafted for need for once instead of BPA. Both guys seem like very good shooters from 3 pt land and are a little older than the guys they normally draft so both should be ready to contribute from the get go in specific bench roles. I don’t have an issue with what they did last night.

I think Nesmith is a great pick.  I figured we would end up with RJ Hampton but was happy to see Nesmith available.  At that point, to me it was an easy pick so you have to give Ainge a top score for that.

I don't know much about Pritchard but what I have seen looks good.  Feels like pretty good value at 26.  I was hoping to get someone like Isaiah Stewart or Jalen Smith but they were long gone.  Vernon Carey was still available.  I would have preferred a shot with a big but let's see if they trade or sign some additional Big talent.

Trading 30 for a future pick is a who knows.  I understand that the Celtics didn't need 4 rookies (even if one is a stash) so OK.  Carey would have been an interesting pick I think.  We'll see how it works out.

Taking the best available Stash at #47 is fine.  Seems like a good value pick.

I give Danny a B +.

Nesmith is an A/A- pick.

PP is a C+/B- pick.

B+

B, or thereabouts.  A solid draft.

I really like the Nesmith pick.  One of those times when the arguable BPA also happens to fit a sore need on your team.  If he's as advertised, then we have a real need for his skillset.

I'm lukewarm on the Pritchard pick.  I question whether he has the physical tools for the NBA... BUT there are enough recent precedents of similar players contributing to good teams that I'm intrigued.  I do love the kid's spirit.  He'll fight.

Yam Madar is a typical stash guy.  Maybe he gives us something, maybe he doesn't.  I don't expect much from 45+ picks anyway, so it's not a big loss if he never contributes.

We'll see the full details of the #30 deal in time.

I think they added players who can contribute to the team winning next year, if only modestly.

I also was sort of relieved that Danny avoided some of the tendencies he's had in the past.  I really thought he was gonna go after Maxey or someone similar at 14.

It would've been nice to address size inside with one of the draft picks, but Brad asks a lot of his bigs so I kinda doubt any rookie big would've been able to crack the rotation.

C.  I like Nesmith, but think there were better players that went just before him and failing to move up was a mistake.  In fact failing to move up at all, when the C's tried hard was a huge let down.  I know it takes two teams to trade, but when the C's were out there so much trying to move up, to fail to do it just seems like a huge failure.  I also thought Pritchard was a reach and didn't like the Memphis trade at all.  I mean 2 future 2nd round picks for a 1st this year, terrible value.  At least dump Poirier or something in the trade.  I also think they probably could have moved up for Bolmaro or Hampton instead of staying firm at 26.  I'd have rather just had them move both 26 and 30 and get one of those guys than do what they did.  Just a missed opportunity when some really good players were on the board.

Who knows if any of these guys will turn out to be contributors or even starters, but from the bios of these guys I would give the Celtics a B.

I am not going to downgrade the draft because the Celtics couldn't trade up to get a player that posters desire. It takes two to tango and I refuse to believe that Ainge didn't do all he could to trade up into the lottery and get a "better" prospect. So there is that.

And after seeing what elite shooting can do for a team in the ECFs, I actually love the Nesmith pick. He is one inch shorter than Duncan Robinson and one inch taller than Tyler Herro. Neither are great athletes or defenders, like Nesmith. Heck, Nesmith might be a better athlete than both. So if those two players can have the type of difference making roles on Miami because of their shooting, I can't wait to see what that type of shooting can do for Boston.

My best friend is an Assistant Athletic Director for a Division 1 school in California. He saw Pritchard play a lot and says Pritchard is going to be someone the fans love immediately. Think J.J. Barea or TJ McConnell with excellent shooting. I can get down with that.

I also like they shed Pourier's contract with #30. Ainge was never going to add 4 rookies to camp or even 3 rookies on the roster. So what he did with #30 and #47 is alright by me.

Sadly for some on this board, I think this means Waters and Edwards are gone. Can't see either being on the team next season with much better shooting and much better sized rookies coming in.

So A- or B+ for me.

Other than some hopeful speculation on here, I haven't seen anything to suggest the #30 trade included dumping Pourier.

Sorry. Thought I read a piece by Keith Smith saying Poirier would be a part of the transaction.

Isn't Nesmith actually a good defender? Most scouting reports I've read have been very positive about his defence (yes he lacks top-end explosiveness, but he has good size and length for a wing).
