This comparison literally makes no sense. They’re both white point guards. That’s where the similarities end.

McConnell can’t shoot, doesn’t look to score ever, is a neat passer and plays Dellavedova-like pesty defence. Pritchard is an elite shooting PG with an elite handle who can make passes, but looks to score first.
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

I look at Peyton Pritchard and I see a star in the league. All you guys reducing him to a bench player do not get that players make plays. You are just looking at him and underrating him because of his size. This guy is a player he is no ones off the bench scrub.
I don’t see star potential at all.

Undersized. No outlier strengths. Unexceptional athleticism in any category.

In order to be a star at his size with his athleticism he’d need to be 99th percentile in something. He looks quite good at everything but that won’t be enough.

I'm not sure I would consider a PG listed at 6'2" and 190 lbs undersized.  I would think that 6'2" is pretty much dead on averrage for an NBA PG with small guards being in the 5'10" - 6'1" range and larger guards being 6'3" and over.

There have been a LOT of exceptional point guards that have been 6'2" / 190 or under - even if we just look at current players you have Kyrie, Chris Paul, Kemba, Kyle Lowry...and not all of those guy sare super athletic either.

In fact Kyle Lowry is a great example - short, stocky, not overly athletic, drafted late (24th overall) and didn't even average double figures until about his 7th season.

Same size, same speed, same athletism. Swap out passing for shooting. Why doesn't it make sense because all features must match exactly?

And ease up on elite handle/shot he's neither of those.

Comparing him to Price and Lowry doesn't make sense to me.
ok fine

Measurables are overrated; benches across the NBA are littered with disappointing players w/ excellent measurables.

Body language, like ring generalship in boxing, is a much better indicator of who's who. Who knows what to do with/without the ball on offense and defense weighs a lot more than measurables. Pritchard is decisive on offense, making the quick dribble/pass/shoot decisions; and he works hard on defense.

The play where Teague passed to PP on the wing, he penetrated, forced the defense to collapse, and passed it back to an open Teague is a not a rookie-level play. He's advanced for a rookie and it will earn him minutes early in the season. If he shoots at a decent clip (+37% 3P) and can guard 2s well, he's a rotation mainstay even when Kemba's back.

Pritchard is two inches taller with 3 inches more wingspan. Pritchard has an elite handle and is a much better shooter than McConnell.  They don’t look the same on the court. You can keep tooting that horn but I for one just don’t see it.

Maybe Lou Will?

It's not that features don't match exactly, it's that they don't play at all similarly

I see a bunch of Fred VanVleet in Pritchard's game.

Very similar games. If Pritchard gets anywhere near VanVleet as a player it’s a home run.

Do you consider VanVleet a star? Or Dragic? Or Lowry?

What are they "99th percentile" in?
I consider neither VanVleet nor Dragic stars. Lowry is substantially stronger and quicker than Pritchard. If Pritchard looked to have lowrys strength and quickness I’d say he’s got a chance to be a star.

Dragic is a bit taller and more importantly has a 6’7” wingspan he is in now way undersized. Plus I think he’s a better athlete.

VanVleet isn’t a star but if Pritchard can be VanVleet with really good handle/passing then I suppose he’d be a star. It’s just such a longshot. I really don’t even understand how VanVleet is as effective as he is and I don’t expect that to continue honestly.

He has Reggie Miller range for threes... Have you seen his range?
If he can be Reggie Miller then sure.

Don’t think there’s any chance of that. I like Pritchard. He’s exactly the profile you look for at the end of the first and early second.

High performing veteran college players with no flaws outside of their measurements. Long history of draft steals in that profile.

But there’s a reason you can get those guys late and it’s because although they may have a higher chance of being effective nba players, they don’t have star potential.

Now once every now and then does one of these guys shock the world and become a star? Yes. It’s really really unlikely. I believe Pritchard is gonna be a plus backup point guard for a decade and that would be absolutely unbelievable value at pick 28.

Looked pretty bad yesterday. On both ends

Looks like no pnr plays for him. Also bigger player guarding him semi zone. So if shot doesnt fall(which it didnt), not easy to get past his man and finish at the rim

Defensively....welp, that was what I was worried about. Got beat on the drive. And couldnt bother his man jump shot. KD shot over him = welcome to the big time rook

I’m very impressed by Pritchard, second game in. If he hasn’t stepped on the bounds line a couple of times he would’ve had 12 points. Durant shoots over everyone.

I wish Pritchard wasnt in the rotation. Teague is a better player and he can’t play a position other than PG. So CBS ends up playing Pritchard with Teague and it’s just a very small lineup. Put Grant Williams at the 5 and it sounds like a recipe for disaster on both ends of the floor (unless that lineup gets hot from deep).

I would argue that he's a passable on-ball defender at his position, but he gets killed on switches. :(

Definite flaw in our defensive scheme that Brad never adjusts it when our small guards get picked on.
