This is really aggravating. I was hoping Horford would be an albatross contract and now Morey got rid of it for basically a distant first rounder. Presti just bailed them out.

How did that negotiation go?  Like, how do you get the Thunder to agree to pick protection?

It’s a little suspicious how many of the picks presti got cane from morey lol
I guess it helps to have a working relationship with other GMs

Wow..bet Al wishes he would have not sign with Philly last season...plus, thought there was a rule that a player can’t be traded again  till 30 or 60 days after (Danny green)

Deal has been agreed to but not completed through league offices. (Danny green)

Also, you can trade a guy as many times as you want, as quickly as you want, so long as you do not combine him with other players in a deal and aggregate salaries.

He is combined with ferguson.
they will do both the trades after the draft
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Morey is good at this! Doable to get in bottom 3 if they decide they want the pick.. maybe 2026 is unprotected ...
Would have helped of Danny had 2 picks each year not 3 or 4 occasionally lol

Wonder what other moves Presti has up his sleeve, and wonder how he'll look in OKC.  (Will Adams be moved? Will they play together?).

He has the Donovan connection, and considered them in free agency when he left Atlanta.

OKC can be decent, Al Horford's still good (and a good teammate) despite what went down in Philly.  They definitely have the luxury of trying to play good basketball while also being able to rebuild.

Donovan is in Chicago now.

What a huge deal this is for the Sixers. Gets rid of Average Al and his above average contract and gets a 3x NBA champion who can shoot from the perimeter on an expiring. Morey working his magic already, I wonder what OKC get out of it. Don't they already have Gallinari and Adams in those frontcourt spots? I guess this means Gallinari is gone.

I would venture to say both are gone. Adams and Al can't coexist, and Gallo could make money

not really. OKC has the cap space to absorb

They just care about picks.  IT is madness right now, how many picks they have

They could probably get two high end superstars(if team is willing to deal) with all those 1sts

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
It does look like Philly was lucky to get out of this one, but their fans were talking about a possible Horford for Hield trade over the last month or two, so I guess this is a lot better (for us) than that. The Sixers also won't exactly have cap space...only Danny Green.

One last important piece, Horford is really only guaranteed for $14.5M in 2022. The $26.5M would have been guaranteed if the Sixers won the championship any year during his contract and it would have been $19.5M had they simply made the Finals. I am not sure of the logistics of this contract language after a trade has taken place, but OKC isn't going to the Finals any time soon. If it's only $14.5M in that last year, it is a lot more palatable.

Here's all their picks...the font is tiny because I had to shrink it to fit them all on a page. 16 firsts in 6 years

Any chance Horford can get himself a buyout and come back to Boston? I imagine it's way too early for that but can't blame me for hoping

I would think presti is hoping to get picks for Horford next year when his remaining contract is not that bad

A bad contract can always be unloaded.  A lot of people including myself scoff at some of these contracts being handed out and absorbing bad contracts in trades but more often than not you can find a way to weasel out of it if you really need to.

Yeah you’ll pay a price but really at the end of the day, for a team trying to contend, a late first and a second is nothing compared to cap space.
