Apparently, we got the 1st done deal of the trade season.

Lakers in: Dennis Schroder
Thunder in: #28 + Danny Green

Quote from: Adrian Wojnarowski
Lakers guard Danny Green and the No. 28 overall pick have been a focus of the trade discussions for Schroder, sources tell ESPN.

Schroder is 27 and still on the improve. Green is 33 and is just starting to decline. I'd say the Lakers got the best of this deal, even though the Thunder did pick up a draft pick and Green's still better defensively.

Per Bobby Marks, Rondo is looking for mid level money (~9M).  He probably won't get that but he should get a nice bump from his vet minimum last season.

That’s a great deal for the Lakers. Schroeder is a great bench piece (and the Cs killer).

Danny Green would be nice bench player for the Celtics. The type of low usage 3+D bench wing the team sorely needs.

Is there any way to get him?
Or is his contract too large (to match trade wise)?
Would it require a buyout for the C's to get him?

1yr/15M so we don't have a good match.

It looks like the Lakers made this move because they expect to lose Rondo.

In that case, does replacing Danny Green, a late 1st, and Rondo with Schroeder make them any better? Rondo was a key piece to their playoff run. I think this sets them back a bit.

On a related note, which teams out there are willing to give Rondo mid-level exception money?

Another good move by the Lakers i.m.o.
Lakers' front office not scared to be assertive and look for improvements despite just winning a championship.

On a side note, Green was a free agent signing last summer (just like Walker) but he was shipped out nonetheless for the better of the team.

Big difference between trading a star 4yr/Max player that you acquired than trading a role player signed with a 2yr contract.  The latter get traded all the time.

Kevin Pelton of ESPN gives the Thunder an A and the Lakers a C.

I don't get it.

Anyone else think the Lakers got considerably worse with this trade? Maybe Caruso made Green a little expendable, but I don't think Schroeder is very good, and I do think Green is a winning basketball player.

Interesting to look at it this way.

The guy who runs the team and runs the floor when he's on it...wanted Schroder.

Assume other chips will fall on that roster,

I'm with hpantazo and Who in thinking this trade is not that great for LAL.  I'm not sure Schroeder will look very good next to Lebron.  The way hpantazo phrases it here, it looks like a clear net negative, but you also have to add in whatever 3 & D wing the Lakers end up signing to fully evaluate, which we can't do yet.  I think it will still end up looking like a net negative in the end, just not as much of one as it seems now.
