Bring on the signing of the scrapheap bottom of the barrel unrestricted free agent. Aron Baynes is on line  one

Baynes is NOT a bottom barrel scrapheap player.

I like Hayward's game, but the fact that he couldn't stay healthy in Boston was really frustrating. So in that sense, I'm not sad to see him go, but it's a failure that Boston got nothing for him.

Now Boston is down one starter (Hayward), plus Kemba's knee is still suspect, the Cs have no legit big body now that Kanter is gone, and the bench is mostly young guys with little or no experience. Danny's got some work to do.

Welp, there goes the S&T route. Can't believe that Gordy won't even insist on them doing a S&T to give us a trade exception to give us that flexibility. If so, then screw him, though it very well could be us not asking for it either given that we're not likely to use it.
Don't see us not wanting that TPE, having it gives us the flexibility to use it.

We should try to get it. We can at least use it to bring in multiple players.

According to Spotrac, Charlotte is about $28M over the cap right now when all cap holds are considered.  The only big cap hold they can "waive" away is Biyombo at $25.5M.  All the other holds are small and include the rookies they just drafted.  They list Batum as "player exercised" (I believe he had a PO) so his salary is on the books.

I don't know what the exact numbers will work out to be but this appears to need to be a trade.  That means we get some player or players back and also likely a Trade Exemption.  Maybe we use the TE and trade for Turner, who knows.  This is not the best outcome probably but there are still a number of pieces to fall into place.

At $30M, I am glad we didn't sign him and I suspect that this was too rich for Indy as well.  They would have had to send back at least $24M in players (Turner and McDermott would have worked) as well as overpay for Hayward.  That is not a very good deal for Indy

Danny overplayed his hand, it seems.

We become a 4th or 5th seed in the Eastern Conference.

Huge loss for Celtics.

Congratulations, Gordon, great contract!!  Will be fun to watch you play for Hornets, teach LaMelo the right way to play the game.

The TPEs seem useless. We've had them before, but Ainge usually doesn't use them.

Precisely. I mean, he was a no show for all our playoff runs too. It's not like our guys aren't used to him not being around.

What if charlotte struck out on another guy and decided to go for Hayward because of it? Deal should have been done yesterday with Indy.

It’s just infuriating

Again all speculation but this deal came out of nowhere when many blue check marks were heavily reporting on a sign and trade up until an hour ago with Indy

also,  why not get it done in the two days they extended the deadline.  hayward may have taken the deal from indy without going to the market.

Can you imagine for a second that you are GH and his agent.  Do you think they are ignorant or do you suspect they are actively engaged as "FREE" agents to explore their best possible return?  Do you think it's in the realm of possibility that once GH and agent know the ballpark of the Indy deal that they are out there actively seeking who else might be willing to offer more?  It is unfathomable to me that Gordon's agent hasn't been in touch with Charlotte from the get go.  If he wasn't then he's not doing his job.   If agent lets GH sign with Indy before doing due diligence, HE should be fired.

The Cs may have done well last year, but now that they lost Horford Kyrie Hayward, they'll never make a deep playoff run again!  :(
