I'm not seeing what purposes Hayward may have to consider leaving, though.

A fresh start, after a brutal time in Boston?
Does he have family in IN?
Competition with Brown/Tatum?
Tough negotiations with front office?

All seem possible - maybe more than one at play - but none seem all that convincing.  Maybe only because we aren't aware of some locker room/front office happenings, though (as always).

I think the first 3 are pretty much on the mark. He's definitely had a brutal time here, the fans are low on him because he hasn't delivered, and he's fallen behind Brown, Tatum and Kemba and because he's not a selfish "gotta get me mine" player he won't rock the boat, he'd rather leave and go elsewhere. It's not his fault due to injuries but he's been a poor investment. I wouldn't be surprised if he just wanted to draw a line under it and possibly move back to his home state towards the back half of his career. He would definitely be one of their top 2 options, especially if Dipo moves on.

I think he has a pretty decent relationship with the FO though, which is probably why they are trying to work on sign and trade options for Boston to get something. Due to Covid depressing league revenues where the league is withholding up to 30% of player salaries to cover shortfalls it's more financially viable for him to opt out of his last year and try to get a longer term deal where the money on the back end more than makes up for the lower annual amount so I understand why he opted out. He's not getting $34m this year anyway because of Covid so may as well try and find a better long term deal and security. The big question is, does Danny have the same idea of his value going forward that Gordon does, and I suspect that, similar to Al, the answer is no, which is probably why he's not coming back here. And Danny usually has a better idea of player value than the player themselves, so there is that  :police:

I thought the league and players agreed that the escrow this coming season would remain the standard 10% and that they would increase the escrow the following two seasons? Which if true makes his opt out driven by something other than $$. Honestly maybe they should just re-sign for one year at $34 mm lol.

I am starting to get a bad feeling that Ainge’s hardball will get us nothing and everything backfires.
I think he needs to accept Turner and McDermott, obviously assuming it’s there, and call it a day. TJ Warren and Turner would be robbery and I can see that ask constantly upsetting the Pacers enough to just walk away.

Only other hang up could be a third team is involved, but no reports til now are suggesting that’s the case.

Yes, somebody, anybody make a decision.  Still have money to spend and options dwindling. I mean NYK still looms out there.  Hayward does have connections to NYK.  Johnny Bryant is an assistant coach there and he and GH were tight in Utah.  Bryant was his assigned coach and helped him to that all star game.  I also believe Walt Perrin is with NYK now as well. Hoping it is the first news of the day.

It’s a bad combo of an indecisive as usually Hayward and Danny’s trading tactics

True true.  I cringe with each refresh. Hopeful and fearful at the same time.

Danny and Pacers GM have a history together:

https://www.12up.com/posts/5239998-pacers-gm-makes-awesome-joke-savaging-danny-ainge-over-paul-george-trade

This article made me LOL...
Pritchard said Danny only offered Larry Bird rights for Paul George.
😂 😂 😂
I’m not surprised that danny was lowballing him for George I just hope that past is not standing in the way and both sides come to a reasonable solution.

I thought Gordo was a little timid last year.  I believe he even admitted that he needs more touches to get in the groove.  I think it might be best for him to move on, if we can get some replacement value in return.

Idk what was more agonizing. The wait for the Election results, or this wait regarding Hayward  :P

Nah. He holds all the power. Hayward isn't going to sign for the MLE in Indiana, but he already bought a house and enrolled his kids in school in Indiana. Indiana wants him.

Ainge can wait. It may be tortuous for us, but the Pacers cannot acquire him without meeting the asking price and Hayward is not really considering going anywhere else.

Hope you’re right and DA has the leverage here.

Hope Gordon isn’t listening to “Indiana wants me... lord I can’t go back  there.”

Hayward definitely wants Indiana but the Pacers can absolutely determine he’s not worth it and move on.
Hayward is not worth Turner and TJ Warren and if that’s what Ainge is demanding I can see the Pacers saying sorry Gordon go sell that home you proactively bought for no reason

Hayward did not game this out very well.

I'm wondering whether Ainge is looking for the best return, or if he really wants to box Hayward into resigning with us. It's looking more and more like he will be able to do that if he chooses to.

Only the Knicks can sign him, and it doesn't sound like they are just giving him what he wants. Going there is an unpleasant option, and who knows what they might do later.

The longer this goes, the better this goes for us. There is a pretty high likelihood he stays.
