Could it be that Justin Holiday is the guy that goes with Turner to the Cs? He just got signed by Indiana for 3 yrs/18M.

It could be! But no one knows for sure what’s going on right now.

Is it really only Danny to blame or Hayward?

If Hayward is greedy for more money, Danny is asking for more for salary in return.  But not Jeremy Lamb more.   Turner and Warren for example.

Pacers reject the proposal

Pacers are in a tough spot

Now we know why he opted out. He wouldn’t have if he didn’t know this was on the table.

That's certainly one reason. Salaries getting depressed as a result of league revenues tanking due to the impact of Covid is probably another. His $34m was looking more like $26m once you factored that into account. Avery Bradley likely opted out of his deal for the same reason, and to try to get another, longer term deal of less money per year but that would pay more on the back end.

I'm not seeing what purposes Hayward may have to consider leaving, though.

A fresh start, after a brutal time in Boston?
Does he have family in IN?
Competition with Brown/Tatum?
Tough negotiations with front office?

All seem possible - maybe more than one at play - but none seem all that convincing.  Maybe only because we aren't aware of some locker room/front office happenings, though (as always).

It's quite convincing to me. You want to be the number 1 guy? Can't be that here in Boston as you're the number 4 guy here. He also has family connection in Indiana. Injuries probably gave him a nightmare in Boston. I think he just wants to leave and start fresh elsewhere, and Indy might bring that for him.

I think the first 3 are pretty much on the mark. He's definitely had a brutal time here, the fans are low on him because he hasn't delivered, and he's fallen behind Brown, Tatum and Kemba and because he's not a selfish "gotta get me mine" player he won't rock the boat, he'd rather leave and go elsewhere. It's not his fault due to injuries but he's been a poor investment. I wouldn't be surprised if he just wanted to draw a line under it and possibly move back to his home state towards the back half of his career. He would definitely be one of their top 2 options, especially if Dipo moves on.

I think he has a pretty decent relationship with the FO though, which is probably why they are trying to work on sign and trade options for Boston to get something. Due to Covid depressing league revenues where the league is withholding up to 30% of player salaries to cover shortfalls it's more financially viable for him to opt out of his last year and try to get a longer term deal where the money on the back end more than makes up for the lower annual amount so I understand why he opted out. He's not getting $34m this year anyway because of Covid so may as well try and find a better long term deal and security. The big question is, does Danny have the same idea of his value going forward that Gordon does, and I suspect that, similar to Al, the answer is no, which is probably why he's not coming back here. And Danny usually has a better idea of player value than the player themselves, so there is that  :police:

Anything is possible in terms of what the holdup could be including an Indiana ask for a player in return - or seeking a third party.

I keep wondering if TJ Warren is Danny’s guy in this and Indy is reluctant to give him and Turner without something else coming back (Theis, Grant, Bob, Romeo, Nesmith).  I think Turner/Warren is the best case scenario (I also like Victor - but I’m always a sucker for fools gold - which could be the case with Warren as well).

Hayward+Semi+a 1st rounder (or 2 2nd rounders) sounds like a fair thing to give up for Turner + Oladipo

However, assuming we do get this haul, what would the rotation look like?

Kemba-Dipo-Brown-Tatum-Turner?
And then Smart-Nesmith-FA-Theis off the bench?

Wouldn’t we be (again) massively underutilizing another top talent in this scenario? Do we bring Dipo off the bench (instead of Smart) and have him anchor the 2nd unit, ala Ginobili? Also, and maybe more importantly, what lineup closes the game?

having too many good players is a problem I want and need

Smart comes off the bench. That has always and will always work

Pretty sure Dipo, being a 2x All Star, is not going to want to do that. We'd keep him for a year and then he would walk at the end of the season. Gordon did it to accommodate Mook but a big part of it was because he was coming off that ghastly injury. I would think Dipo would be very unhappy if that were to happen.

That's not necessarily a good thing if some of those players don't have the right attitude. Just look back to year before last, that was the problem the whole year, too many players who think they should be starting and trying to get theirs. I definitely want good players but I want a clear hierarchy and players accepting their roles.

I wonder if there is a second team wanting a S&T offering more. Kind of tough position to be in. Help the player (send him home) or the Franchise (tell Pacers you should get more back).
