Marc Stein: Indiana continues to explore sign-and-trade pathways to try acquire Gordon Hayward from Boston, league sources say The Knicks, as covered here yesterday, remain a suitor for Hayward with their salary-cap space – via Twitter TheSteinLine

I've seen a few reports that the Pacers want to send out Oladipo and TJ Leaf and do not want to include Turner, which is the holdup so far.

We really need a decent center and Turner should fit well, but Oladipo might be ready for a bounceback season. Still, Turner is on the books at a reasonable deal for several seasons whereas Oladipo is a 21 million dollar expiring deal. He'd be looking for a big contract this time next season.
If they are unwilling to deal Turner, then they should include a future first to Oladipo and TJ leaf. I would then try to move Oladipo to a team more likely to sign him long term.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

He looks gross and fat in that NY uniform so I know he's not going there.

Gordon Hayward is way too cool to look disheveled.

'way too cool to look disheveled' ...that may be the problem he deferred too much to the Jays. He is the vet he should have led that team.

I completely agree that he deferred but he had to. Jaylen and Hayward has to defer to Tatum who she it very clear he wanted to average 20ppg and make the all star team. These two guys are used all wrong.
I’m done with Brad. I want the best return but part of me really wants Hayward to stick it to him.

Apparently Oladipo has turned into a real head case.  I could be misinformed but he doesn’t sound like he would be a good fit into a already suspect locker room.

What is suspect about our locker room?  I've read nothing but good things about the team chemistry since Kyrie, Morris, and Rozier left last year.

I don't buy that Hayward leaving has anything to do with the locker room, he wants a long term contract and a chance to play a bigger role.

I've been beating this drum to death, but would be sweet if we could figure out how to get Bogdonavich.  He'd be perfect replacement for Hayward.  Great secondary facilitator, sweet jump shot, not ball dominant, real team player.   3 way deal with Indy where Indy can send Sac a better package than that weak package offered by Bucks.  Say Hayward starting salary in new deal is $25mm, I'd sign Boggy for $20mm per; he'd be so worth it. What was he reported to make in trade to Bucks?

I guess we have to wait until 6PM before the craziness begins again!!

I like Bogdan quite a bit, too.  Question is how that could work.  Maybe Indy sends Oladipo to Sacramento, Bogdan S&T to Boston, Hayward to Indiana?

If we wanted to go 1 for 1, the max for Hayward's starting salary would be $22,600,000 if I'm not mistaken.

SG: OG Anunoby/Norman Powell/Matisse Thybulle
SF: Gordon Hayward/Demar Derozan

That would be interesting, but I'm not finding it very likely. If we are just dealing with Indy, I would love to get Brogdon. That also might sound unlikely, but Hayward would mostly be filling Brogdon's role as a switchable, versatile facilitator (yes, I understand Brogdon is technically a PG, but he is 6'6").

I can see a pathway to Oladipo working out for us. If he comes here and has a good, but not extraordinary season, we would then have the option to re-sign him a reasonable mid-20s AAV and then try to move Kemba to a team who loses out on the other big FAs. I can also see it backfiring, but that's what mid-season deals are for.

Turner is the most meh of the options, but I can see his fit and I wouldn't complain if the alternative was Hayward signing with ATL or NYK and leaving us with nothing. I would absolutely try to avoid taking on more money in this scenario, though. If we are downgrading from Hayward to Turner, then I would at least want to get under the luxury tax.

On a semi-unrelated note, it is pretty funny that many people were upset that we made the playoffs in 2016, missed out on Turner, and had to 'settle' for Rozier at #16. Who would have thought Rozier might actually have more value several years later?

TJ Leaf to me is zero value.  He would be the 5th big on a team that has very mediocre bigs.  I hope that offer represents what they are willing to give up for Hayward on a 1 year $34M deal.  I think (hope?) we can do better than Oladipo and Leaf on the sign and trade market.  Oladipo will probably have a good season though, more time since his injury.

Did you miss the fist fight in the locker during the Miami series?    Rumor was it was Smart going Tatum and Jaylen stepping in.    I've read that Smart and Tatum aren't exactly best friends other places too.    Irving wanted out.  So did Horford.  Now Gordon.   You believe what you want.   I choosing to look at the evidence.

What evidence is there that Smart and Tatum have issues? You just made up the “Smart going at Tatum” stuff and you haven’t read anywhere credible that they have other issues either.

Yeah, I’ve never heard any claims of any fist fight or anything. Things certainly got heated in the Miami series, but nothing anywhere that extreme. Major exaggeration.

Boston Celtics Jayson Tatum calls Marcus Smart 'the best defender in the league'
Marcus Smart made an incredible, game-saving chasedown block on Norman Powell to help the Celtics pick up the Game 7 win and advance to the Eastern Conference Finals and his efforts didn't go unnoticed by his superstar teammate. 'If you're going to war in a Game 7, that's who you want on your team.'

That’s what I’m hoping for.

Turner alone doesn't make enough. They would have to send back someone else along with him, unless they really get a bargain on Hayward.

I mean it depends on Hayward's contract, if its like 3/72 (rough estimate) or lower you can start the salary low enough in the first year that it is probably doable straight up.
