Take the best deal regardless of position. But for goodness sake’s don’t let him go for nothing.

Hayward for capela rumors now brewing since hawks got Okongwu

Okongwu, Capela, and Collins all on the same team seems like a logjam. Meanwhile Atlanta reportedly has interest in Hayward and the Celtics are looking for a big (and a lot of analysts liked Okongwu for the C's if they could've gotten into range for him in the draft). It does feel like there might be a deal for one of these 3 brewing, doen't it?

Who said the Celtics are looking for a big?  I didn't see that anywhere, but from fans.

Fans and most analysts. That doesn't mean they're right about what the thinking is around the team but there was no one in the rotation taller than 6'8" last year. Unless Timelord takes a huge leap, I think they need some kind of size.

Ok, I agree they should sign a big.  I just didn't see Celtics with tied interest to any of the bigs fans want to trade for.  Just wishful thinking.  Also need a vet shooter.

Zach Lowe stated on the Jump he thinks that a Dark Hourse for Hayward could be Charlotte.

They have alot of balls in the air and Hayward could be the main guy to bring it all together.

Hayward for Rozier?

Also seems like Chicago has set themselves up for a Lavine trade and a trade for Kemba.

Are we seriously waiting by the phone like a teenage girl to see if we get invited to the prom?

I’d be surprised if Hayward stays. At this point, I think the C’s are working out a sign-n-trade, kind of like the Rozier situation. That means Hayward is likely going to land in a place he wants to be in, and the C’s are getting...”not nothing”.

The thing is Atlanta doesn't have to trade for Hayward. They could outright sign him in FA anyways.

The one minor advantage of trading him is clearing up cap space. I can see the desire to get Capella off the books at this point. Trae is going to get a Supermax when he is ready, Hayward won't come cheap, neither will John Collins I can see them wanting to shed Capella to open up some cap space

This pretty much. Probably a trade exception and nothing else. Think it would be foolish to assume Cs would get a player back from ATL in any sort of sign n trade. They are basically doing Cs favor in that case as they could just sign him outright.

1) Its doing another GM/Team a solid that costs them absolutely nothing. A sign and trade still costs Atlanta the same salary but gives us a TPE. Kind of like what we did for Charlotte last season with Rozier. Probably gain a second rounder for helping out.

2) trading some salary (assume 10 million for a 25 million dollar salary) would mean that they would maintain enough capspace to sign another max/near max player

3) Hayward would have to opt out to be signed outright. He might want his 34 million, (need to be traded) then sign a new contract with them next season if it looks like they are going to be a good team

So if a clone of Danny was running the warriors instead of Myers would the following trade be discussed now:
Clay for Hayward (picks option) plus Smart fits into GSW exception?

Warriors compete this year and maybe next
Healthy Klay fits our timeline starting next season and we get under the tax threshold

I think Hayward opts in, and we run back for a while. If things don't go really well, Danny will deal him before the trade deadline.

Think Danny throws a second round to get a bigger trade exception and that’s it. No players in return.

Will have the MLE to address bench depth but nothing else.

How exactly would a better TPE help the Celtics?
