Red Auerbach would come back to life and it wouldn't be pretty.

Giant Celtics moves are made for "bigs".

Look at Celtic's history.

The reason our roster is like this is because Ainge attempted a giant move for a big.

Chris Haynes:

Yahoo Sources: The Atlanta Hawks are in play to acquire Boston Celtics forward Gordon Hayward.

So Boston trades Hayward for the 6th pick, ships 6, 14 and 26 with either Kemba/brown/smart to Houston for harden?

Hawks could sign him as FA. This is bad news if Gordon goes there.
Maybe that explains pushing back the deadline.  Perhaps Gordon told them that if all else fails he will opt out and take the long term security with Atlanta.  But, he'd rather do a sign and trade with a contender.  So, Ainge is working on the sign and trade offers?

It's interesting looking at trade scenarios for Hayward and given he would want to go to a contending team there aren't actually too many trade options for him where the celtics would get adequate return. Other then the Pacers there isn't really any options because you have to remember that with Tatum's extension coming up, the incoming players can't want future max contracts as the Celtics won't be able to keep them long term inside the salary cap.

The ATL stuff seems like it was leaked for leverage more than anything:

- Gordy leaking it to either get Danny to trade him to a team of his choice or extend him at a better number; or

- Danny leaking it to get a team he’s negotiating with (e.g. Indy, Dallas, etc.) to give up more for Hayward.

Clearly it means Danny doesn't have what it takes to win. ;)

Yup.  I'll take Mark Murphy's word over Scoopy Joe.

Well for what it's worth, Mark Murphy is the same guy a few years ago who said Kyrie wasn't coming to the Celtics.

Yes, my assumption is that the options are

1. Celts work out a sign and trade with a team Hayward would want to play for (e.g. Indiana); I suspect that currently that team is not offering their best assets (Turner?) for Gordo

2. Gordon opts out and signs with Atlanta, or some other team with a ton of cap space

With option two the Celts could try to do a sign and trade and get a huge trade exception, but very little incentive for Atlanta to make it happen.

Eh, I honestly don't see Hayward going to the ATL just for the money. The Indy stuff makes a lot of sense given that they're from there, they just had the baby, he'd be on a competitive team, etc. But Hayward just doesn't seem like someone who'd chase the money like that without being in a competitive position. At least in Indy he'd still be on a pretty good team; Atlanta is still likely not a playoff team with him there.

I still feel like Hayward is using ATL as pressure on Danny - get him to Indy or get him long-term security in a new deal.

What benefit is there for Atlanta to taking Hayward on when they could just sign him? I assume to help the Cs out, Cs would have to toss in some pick and in return Cs get a huge trade exception?
