God I hope not.

I doubt it. I imagine the Celtics would rather just lose Hayward for nothing and free up the ability to get under the luxury tax rather than bring bad Drummond whose 29 million salary makes it near impossible.

3rd team might work.

But Drummond was traded last season for just Knight (didnt play expiring) Henson (Trash) and a second round pick. Hayward is worth WAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYY more than that. They would need to include this years pick, and next years pick.

(Kings for Barnes)

3 team deal with Atlanta maybe,  Cleveland gets a big TPE, Atlanta gets Gordo and C's get Drumm.  maybe next years 1st from the C's and they can take Poirier and Edwards.  Not sure Cleveland will get much for Drummond on an expiring then a 1st and Edwards.  I don't think they gave up much to get him.

Wondering specifically what the negativity re: Drummond is mainly about.  Is it mostly value to contract (overpaid)?  Is it skillset specific?  Is it something I'm not aware of re: attitude or character?    I see Drummond as a very good rebounder, a good offensive player close to the hoop, an awful shooter, and definitely not someone who stretches the floor.  His abysmal FT shooting is now just bad FT shooting.  Defensively I've thought of him as OK.

Given that this is the final year of his contract, would signing him to a 10-15M/year contract change your view of him?  Or... do people see him as just someone who they don't want/ doesn't fit with the C's?

Just curious -- thanks.

I think the reaction is expectations.  Rumors of getting Myles Turner plus McDermott (which didn't really excite me at the time) have morphed into Drummond, a guy who was traded last season for a bag of peanuts. Just seems like a big come down, and it is disappointing.

I can say that I was hoping for more in return for Hayward than Drummond, for example, I liked the sound of Turner and Oladipo from Indy, but if Drummond is the return, I think that is better than not getting anything.  Drummond would probably come with a pick or something but even if it was just Drummond, I think that helps the team.  Maybe this is just some bluffing to put some pressure on Indy or another team.

Rather just keep Hayward than take on Drummond

why can't they hammer out a deal already.  Its not good, it is taking this long

Is Danny being too greedy?  Does Pacers want a 1st in addition for Turner?

Will we know of a trade today or only if he's opting in or out?  If he opts in a trade could potentially be announced at a later date?

He’s Kanter (but a worse FT shooter) who makes almost 6x what Kanter makes. 10-15 years ago, Drummond would be in high demand. The way the game is now he doesn’t really fit the way the Cs or the majority of the NBA plays anymore.

If he is dealt via sign and trade he could generate a trade exception big enough to get Gallo.

Some confusion on the time.  According to below we will know in 15 minutes.

Is Hayward’s deadline 3pm or 5pm? Does free agency start at midnight or at another time (I’ve seen 6pm?) tomorrow? @RedsArmy_John maybe you can help out here?

Celts are limited to where Hayward wants to go to

And even from there, beggers can't be choosers

I can't see why the Pacers would easily give up on Turner. For a player in theory they could just sign outright in a year

On the flip side the Celtics may lose Hayward for nothing, but would have to give up more assets/picks to obtain a player in return. OR salaries they don't want

If Hayward gets fed up, both Pacers and Celtics could come out of this empty handed.  So negotiation skills is crucial

I could totally see Pacers offer Oladipo and Lamb for Hayward.  But Celtics apprehensive to do the deal (taking on injured assets).   Maybe they are trying to find a third partner who is willing to take on Oladipo and Celts come out with a 1st and 2nd.

Pacers cannot sign Hayward in a year, they will not have capspace.

false. Oladipo comes off their books.  So does Mcdermott.   And Hayward is not going to make 30 million per year after next season.

Is there another deadline extension allowed? Danny would love that

We'll learn whether he'll pick up his option or not. We can't possibly know what happens after that.

- He may opt in and stay here.
- He may opt in and get traded.
- He may opt out and re-sign with the C's.
- He may opt out get traded via a sign and trade.
- He may opt out and just walk for nothing.

Go figure!

But they want to resign Holiday and then their picks. add to that the cap dropping and I am not certain they have 20 million in capspace

End of next season they have 84 mill in guaranteed salaries (No Dipo, no McDermott, No Goga, Neither Holidays and no draft picks)
'21 Historical Draft
PG: Kyle Lowry / Mookie Blaylock / Mark Jackson
SG: Reggie Miller / Jeff Hornacek / Nick Anderson
SF: George Gervin / George McGinnis / Kyle Korver
PF: Connie Hawkins / Serge Ibaka / Josh Smith
C: Clint Capela / Bill Laimbeer / Jusuf Nurkic

I wonder if this is all a big standoff between the C's and his Agent.  They want to stay but not get traded to where Danny wants him to go.  The C's are ok with him staying only if he resigns at a lower 1 year deal so the C's are below luxury tax.  Gordon said fine I'll opt out and sign with Atlanta where he doesn't want to go.  Danny is trying to call his bluff telling him go ahead.  Either stay at a reduced salary and help the team or take the money and we will trade you.
