Just saw this on Twitter from Kevin O'Connor:

Sources: The Celtics have emerged as a potential destination for Pelicans guard Jrue Holiday. Boston could package its three firsts (14, 26, and 30) to move into the lottery and flip the pick to New Orleans.

It would have to be followed up with a Kemba trade, no?

Editorial note, is Jrue much of an upgrade over kemba?

Said it before, he’s my favorite non-Celtic in the entire NBA, but I just don’t see how this makes sense.

What money goes out? Smart makes the most sense.

I love me some Jrue Holiday. I think he’s an incredibly underrated player.

Think they would just keep Kemba and shift everyone down. I would assume Hayward is gone in this case.

Is Holliday much of an upgrade to Hayward? If we have to trade all our picks and Hayward to do it, does it make sense?

I don’t buy it; I’ve never found O’Connor to be particularly credible.

That said, it would take Hayward or Kemba or Marcus + Kanter + more to match salaries.  That plus a lottery pick seems steep.

..

Massive one defensively.

If the outgoing was Kemba or was Hayward with a possible Kemba trade to follow I would be 100% on board.

Jru
Smart
Brown
Tatum

that is game breaking defense.

Not enough juice offensively unless you're really buying that Tatum is a next level offensive centrepiece though.

He’s an elite defender and a really good passer.

The shooting and overall scoring from the PG position would take a hit.

Could a deal that sent Hayward to Pacers, Turner to NO and Holiday to Boston (plus picks moving around to different teams) work?

It could if Indy also sent Jeremy Lamb to NOP, I think.

This works, too:

I'm a big fan of Jrue's game. Unlike Kemba, he's a 2-way player. Here's a video of JJ Redick and KD talking about Jrue's defense. According to KD, “Jrue Holiday is solidified as probably the best defender in the league at the guard position”.

That being said, I would only be interested in a trade around Kemba. If the trade is around Hayward, chances are it will be a 1-year rental. No way we can afford 4 max/near max contracts + Smart in 2021/22.

Wouldn't trade Smart + asset(s) for Jrue either.

- Imo, Jrue is at his best when running the point. I don't love the fit of Kemba next to Jrue.
- Smart is considerably younger. He's also under team control for 1 more season (on a reasonable contract).

This would be nice if it were true.

If its for Hayward, we get a cheaper player for an extra year who is just as useful, and just as good. Brown would have to play more 3/4 but he's great at that defensively, and will probably score more easily against bigger players.

If its Kemba, that's most likely the best case. We get bigger and tougher and close up a defensive weak point with a great defender. Holliday is actually a little better passer/facilitator too. He's just not quite the scorer, but that's fine. He's more than good enough.

If its Smart and parts, that might be just as good or even better if Kemba manages to come back at full strength. Not too big of a drop off defensively, a huge boost on offense, and a much calmer guy.

It's hard to see this as a bad trade. Holliday is very good, defensive minded, provides size and athleticism at his position and is a great teammate.

I would pull the trigger immediately if it was something like Smart and one of our picks. I think Jrue would be a perfect fit here.

PG: Dennis Johnson / Jo Jo White / Stephon Marbury
SG: Sidney Moncrief / World B. Free
SF: Chris Mullin / Ron Artest

Jrue is more of a SG not a PG.

I assume if the Celts acquired him that would mean Hayward is the outgoing salary.

Kemba + Holiday as the starting backcourt with Smart off the bench is pretty darn good.

Still need to address backup wing and big man depth, but I'd be for it.

Now if they could somehow get JJ Redick in the deal as well without giving up any of their main rotation pieces ....
