Might get some hate for this pick I think.

But, I need a guy who is a great defender at the center spot, a guy who can secure all the rebounds and start the fast break and can hit the spot up 3 pointer as the trailer on the play.
Need some toughness to knock around the Draymonds, Wallaces, Artests in this league. Someone to stick up for his team.

This guy wont take any nonsense from anyone

I love me some Bill Laimbeer. He doesn't get enough credit for how good a basketball player he was because of his dirty tactics but he was a really good ball player.

I reckon Laimbeer would be a Brook Lopez level 3 point threat in today's game. Laimbeer had a lovely outside shot and a quick release. High volume high accuracy 3 point shooting center. Good passer as well (undervalued part of his game).

Defensively, he won't transition as well to today's league but he gives you that physicality in the post to defend guys like Moses and Artis. Something every team has to worry about. Strong rebounder too.

Dude was over the top but his teammates loved him.

Between Laimbeer, Rodman, Metta, Milsap and Ben Wallace there ought to be a boxing match.

I love Millsap & M.Gasol together.

Those two would have great chemistry.

Thanks - Nance was on my radar as well.

I think your Bigs will work surprisingly well in today's NBA.

He was probably the best player on those Pistons title squads - he was an underrated defender and had a nice inside-out offensive game. I like the pick.

I hate this guy's game tbh. It's one thing to be a fierce competitor and it's a whole nother thing to be a dirty player. Laimbeer was the latter. He literally tried to hurt his opponents. Here's Larry Legend talking about Laimbeer.

Don't think the Smart comp is accurate. Smart ain't a dirty player. He's just a flopper.

My comp would be a rich man's Zaza with a jump shot.

Anyway, value-wise it's a solid pick. I guess it was about time he got drafted.

Yeah, Bill was dirty. And you have to wonder if he would be successful having to play within today's rules. His elbowing, clutching, grabbing, undercutting and cheap shots wouldn't fly today and might make him very prone to getting in foul trouble.

BTW guys, I opened up our usual sister thread, the How Does My Team Look? Thread. Maybe best to use that to discuss total team construction and critiques and keep this thread open for the draft, trades and comments on individual selections.

He owuld adjust.

The game isnt as tough now as it was then so I dont think he throws the elbows, etc. Hell alot of the guys picked played more dirty brand of basketball.
Stockton for one slapped and elbowed everybody all the time.
Rodman with his antics
Artest
Remember this one?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6bM-Y4UoiAY

Its safe to assume that he would be awful and hated, but would be much more tamed down. He would have to be or he would never get to play in a game. same with all the guys.

He would be far more of a Hard Nosed rebounder who can defend his position and play smart team defense and hit threes at a good rate.

Laimbeer flopped all the time. And If Marcus played in the 80s and 90s pretty sure he would have thrown down, a lot.

watching old highlights and remembering the game and how physical it used to be, I find it hard to believe that most of the old school guys wouldnt dominate in todays nba with the soft rules.

Also, Put Lebron back in the late 80 and early 90s and he would have quit the game.
