Don't like the idea tbh. Conflict of interest comes into play. I'd never select a target of my own team. I bet none of us would.

Hopefully we'll find a 10th GM. Come on guys, join in! CelticsStrong drafts are great fun!

Gouki PM'd me a couple of hours ago about that Riki's spot and I told him I'd take it if no one else volunteered before me.

Indy, I believe? The 9th pick?

Just waiting to hear back from him.

Never been a fan of a commissioner also playing the game. I'm even less a fan of a GM selecting for two teams.

So here is a thought. Let's have every GM make a separate pick for that team and see if we collectively make a great team. Order of who makes what pick isn't important. Just everyone gets a turn to make the picks for that team without a GM. The one caveat might be that the person making the pick can't make a pick for the Pacers if he has the pick right after that Pacers pick.

If no one fills i  the spot that seems reasonable.

Just realized, that would mean that not only do I get the last pick, i cannot pick for the empty team either.

Lol
No you could. Just your turn to select comes in a round that you will make the selection ahead of the Pacers pick, so in rounds that you select #1.

@Jvalin, no one would be expected to select a player they were going to select in that round. Just the best player for that team.

So an order could go like
Round 1 Somebody.
Round 2 Darth Yoda
Round 3 Jvalin
Round 4 Who
Round 5 Moranis
Round 6 gouki88
Round 7 Celtic Fan Forever
Round 8 RPGenerate
Round 9 nickagneta
....

Welcome aboard! TP!

I believe you were running Indy in the previous draft as well. 8)

This is true, lol.

I've got a rough list of about 80 players to go with so we'll see how it goes.

Looks to be quite fun.

Snake draft right?

Yeah, I understand. My point is, we all got our binkies. No way would I draft an actual target of mine for a different team. I'd just select a random guy, hoping that my target will still be on the board a few picks down the road. I bet most of us would do the same thing.

Anyway, it doesn't really matter anymore. GreenFaith1819 came to the rescue!

Yeah, it's a snake draft. 12 rounds in total. You can find a list of all the picks in the OP.

Just finished my top 60.

So, with that said, the Suns will entertain offers for the #2 pick. Not very excited about moving down that far in the 1st round but will listen to all proposals. Of course, my decision will probably be contingent on who Chicago takes in front of me.
Top 60?! Wow :o
Heh. In my typical fashion (that being the fashion of a basketball tragic with wayyyy too much spare time), I've made a list of 169 guys categorised into Guards, Wings, Swings and Bigs. Spent like 3 days watching and researching. Might reflect poorly on me but I had a great time rediscovering guys who I think will be under the radar gems. Can't come soon enough!

I did a list of 20-30 players by position So I got 100-150 guys on my list. Rough draft rank wise - enough to work off of.

I had fun re-watching the 1983 Finals last week to decide which one of the two guys playing I wanted to draft #1. Mostly because I was having a tough time figuring out how well that big guy would fit in today's game. Would he be as effective in today's rule? More effective or less effective?

Great series by the way. Much closer than I remembered - considering it was a sweep.
It's funny that you mention that, I was watching some of a playoff series from 1984 because it featured one of those 'forgotten guys' of the 1980s who I really want on my team. It really solidified that position for me. Just hope nobody else had the same idea ;)
And here I am poring over 60s/70s tape . Also took a look at a certain Western conference matchup throughout the 2000s to check out a couple of players, the lad I had in mind definitely did not disappoint.

So for the last 6 months or so I have been watching mostly 80s and 90s games with a few 70s games mixed in there (rather than 2020 playoffs which I only watched sparsely) .... so my mind is mostly in that style(s) of basketball.

So for the last 2-3 weeks I have been watching a few Finals games from the last 15 years to get it right in my head - the differences in the rules and the style of play in today's game vs back in the day. Trying to re-learn / remember / recalibrate. So I was starting with the first season of the hand-check law changes with Pistons-Lakers Final game, then some Lakers-Celtics, some Heat-Spurs and finally some Raptors games from last season.

Just to get a feel for how the game has changed through each one of those mini time periods because I do feel the game has changed massively in that period and even one 5 year period (2004-09 to 2010-14 to 2015-19) are quite different from one another.

2004-10 = still the two big concept
2011-14 = transition to pace and space (more slashing)
2015-19 = 3s everywhere (more long distance shooting)

My feeling is that this fantasy league will be more similar to 2004-09 period given the quality of old-school PFs available but will still have some elements of the other two mini time periods as well.

So I was trying to mix these games in between some 70s/80s 76ers games I was watching (cause their two stars where the guys I was deciding between for #1 overall). Trying to avoid a disconnect between eras.

I always felt it would be quite easy to have 2 teams in a draft.

Especially if the picks are far apart because likelihood of cross-contamination (sorry, my head is boggled, I can't think anymore) of pick selections is less.

So if you have the first and last picks of the round, the guy you want isn't likely to be available at the next pick if you pass on him so you might as well take the BPA each time.

It would be harder if the picks were closer (say 2-3 picks apart or worse the next pick) and there is good chance / high probability the guy you want will still be available.

Anyways, just my theory on it.

Never bothered by the commish drafting. I always felt that worked fine.

Great to have GreenFaith on board. Thanks for coming to the rescue!

Yeah, I was uncomfortable with the idea of it too. Didn't seem remotely fair, and hadn’t put much thought into how to work around it.

Thanks GreenFaith!

Anyone else feeling like the 2013 cavaliers front office.

I have debated about 15 different ways to go with my first 2 picks. And I am confident that someone will not pick, or pick, guys that I had expected to go/be there by when I pick

2013 Cleveland front office without most (not all) the inadequacy is how I’m feeling.

No trades as of yet. Often times from the ones I’ve participated in the first round goes with no trades as teams get their centrepiece.
