Are our organization going to play into it?

Should I be picking Pops type of guys and plan on drafting for Pops system?
Nope.  Not at all.  Just a fun wrinkle and easier to call a team by the franchise name than the person.  So I'm the Raptors instead of Moranis' team.  Or something like that.

Fair enough. Although I would not be opposed to having Pops as my coach. lol
we sometimes do a coach pick round.  Not sure we are doing it this year, but in the past it has been in the inverse order of the player draft order and we do it at the end of the draft.  I think it might be fun to do it this year as well and maybe we make a rule no title winning coaches as way to mimic the draft elimination of talent.  That might be fun to have a coach draft without guys like Pop, Auerbach, Jackson, Riley, etc.

That would be a hard choice. I would get 1st pick too.

Wow. tough call.

Yep, me too. Still got some homework to do. I wanna rank each position separately. Thus far I've only ranked the Centers. I got 11 potential starters, plus lots of other intriguing names. Given that we are 10 teams in total, I believe there's enough talent to go around for everybody.

Btw, the PG and SG positions are super deep. 8)

I haven't done much past the top 5 picks as so much changes in these from round to round and my strategy changes based on who I pick.  Unfortunately for me I have a clear top 4 so I'm hoping one of them falls to 5.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson

Just finished my top 60.

So, with that said, the Suns will entertain offers for the #2 pick. Not very excited about moving down that far in the 1st round but will listen to all proposals. Of course, my decision will probably be contingent on who Chicago takes in front of me.

Heh. In my typical fashion (that being the fashion of a basketball tragic with wayyyy too much spare time), I've made a list of 169 guys categorised into Guards, Wings, Swings and Bigs. Spent like 3 days watching and researching. Might reflect poorly on me but I had a great time rediscovering guys who I think will be under the radar gems. Can't come soon enough!

I did a list of 20-30 players by position So I got 100-150 guys on my list. Rough draft rank wise - enough to work off of.

I had fun re-watching the 1983 Finals last week to decide which one of the two guys playing I wanted to draft #1. Mostly because I was having a tough time figuring out how well that big guy would fit in today's game. Would he be as effective in today's rule? More effective or less effective?

Great series by the way. Much closer than I remembered - considering it was a sweep.

One of the things that first struck me when I made my list of available players was:

A lot of these guys were flawed.

(a) The top guys were not as well rounded as the top players in other Historical Drafts - dominant two way players who improve everyone around them and work in just about any system alongside any type of teammate. They were more restrictive to system & teammate.
(b) there were more one-way players either all-offense or all-defense players likely to be selected.
(c) these flaws might allow defensive orientated teams to be more dominant than offensive orientated teams compared to other historical drafts
(d) it will be harder to build high functioning balanced teams that complex team offense to beat top defenses while also maintaining good defense themselves

I wonder do others feel the same way when they look at their lists?

Well, i plan on sticking with guys who have a singular elite skill.

Elite skills win when balanced against other players with elite skills.

I think that was sort of the point of this draft i.e. to make it more like a regular great basketball team with 1 or 2 HOFers and balanced team around them with specialists, role players, etc.

I feel that (c) depends - a truly dominant offensive team led by an offensive dynamo surrounded with scalable offensive savants is going to be very difficult to defeat assuming they don't suck defensively. Also feel that the danger of building defensively-inclined teams is that you'll either lack a focal point to run your offence through or not have enough supporting pieces to surround your focal point well enough, and it's difficult to cobble enough two-way All-NBAers/All-Stars to create something like the 2014 Spurs where you have a great defence and pieces that create a synergistic effect offensively to push the team's offence into borderline elite territory.
