So unsure why the thought came to me but been pondering it. Would it be a sensible trade for the Clippers and C's to do a trade of

PG13 and Lou Williams
for
Hayward, pick 26, pick 30, C's 2021 1st, and Smart?

I thought about how Clippers chemistry was an issue and how PG13 is still a good upgrade over Hayward. Also thought how the Clippers are dry on draft picks while the C's have no room to add so many picked players. Giving up Smart would hurt but I feel he would be a must for the Clippers to consider moving PG13.

Beverley and Smart backcourt would be hard to score against. Hayward being more of a glue guy with Kawhi getting to run the show his way.

C's put out
Walker, Brown, Tatum, PG13, Theis

Would the upgrade in the starting 5 be worth it?

No thank you. George has slipped and needs ball too much.

I don't really like that trade even if you take out the picks.  Low Will is certainly near on his last legs and is a sieve on defense.  PG13 is okay, but he'd have to accept a much smaller role on offense and I'm not sure he's ready to accept being a 3rd wheel.

I’d love Lou for the right package but I don’t have much use for PG as a reliable talent anymore. He has plenty of time to turn that around however.

Paul George would not be a 3rd wheel on this team, he’d be 2nd, or even 1b given his playmaking skills

I’d bite on buying low on PG.

Even on a 1 year contract that isn't going to get it down to acquire Paul George.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

If Tatum's playmaking ascendancy that we saw in the playoffs can be maintained then that would be an unstoppable Hydra wing trio in JT, PG and Brown.

Interesting idea.  I consider it in the context that Hayward is probably going somewhere else through opting out this season or through FA next season.  In that frame, I do like getting Paul George over Hayward for a season or two just due to the added size.  I think both are otherwise comparable players in terms of expected production or playmaking.  Neither is going to be what they once were at this point.

I don't want to trade Marcus Smart for Lou Williams though, and I am not sure how many picks I would be willing to offer in addition to Hayward to get Paul George.  We have surplus picks, maybe one of the 3 offered (preferably say one from this draft) but definitely not all 3.

But I don't see the Clippers doing this.  I see no scenario where they trade Paul George for Hayward.  They overpaid for PG, they have to live with that, but selling him off low is not the solution.

I would do it I think.

George carries more value around the league and I can see him in turn being flipped once he is able to be (or have the deal be a 3 team deal)

I could see Atlanta wanting him, NYK wanting him, Detroit wanting him.

So there is potential to move George to a 3rd team, while moving up in the draft, and gaining a large TPE.

IE:

Hayward and 26 to Clippers
George to Atlanta
Huerter and #6 to Boston.
'21 Historical Draft
PG: Kyle Lowry / Mookie Blaylock / Mark Jackson
SG: Reggie Miller / Jeff Hornacek / Nick Anderson
SF: George Gervin / George McGinnis / Kyle Korver
PF: Connie Hawkins / Serge Ibaka / Josh Smith
C: Clint Capela / Bill Laimbeer / Jusuf Nurkic

If Paul George is your best player you might as well blow it up and rebuild.  He's plenty talented but has a rather weak mindset and isn't trustworthy in critical moments.  Hayward is a better playmaker than George is and he isn't our top option, so to suggest George would be is rather off-base. He's also a wildly overrated defender at this point and coasts far too often.  His previous reputation as an elite defensive player hasn't been warranted for a few years now.
