If there is one thing we know about our future, is that Brown and Tatum are barely untradable. Last year we made a choice and it is the good one.  Offensively the sky is the limit for Tatum and I think next year he will make an NBA first team season. So of course we have to pay him the max

We have seen enough chokers from that all team list... its an award for regular season performance

Which is fine but extra is needed for tha playoffs

Right now I think there is a dispute as to who is better. Adebayo or Tatum. And Adebayo didnt make all team

This thread is going nowhere. Three things, as pointed out by RJ87 and myself:

- Tatum is not eligible for a true 35% supermax contract. He would need 8 years of service to be eligible.

- Brown is not criminally underpaid. He will be making at least $27M/yr. By signing him when we did, we saved a few million dollars (he did not make All-NBA and would not be eligible for more than 25%), but also took a risk. It worked out for both sides.

- And most importantly, if you don't think Tatum is worth a max contract, then I don't know what to tell you. This isn't even a consideration from Cs management. They absolutely will try to woo him into signing a max extension this offseason with all possible incentives included. He is one of the most sought after players in the league - probably top 5 - and is exactly the kind of player every team dreams of drafting.

The premise of this is that Brown will be offended if Tatum gets his money and it is some amount more than what Brown got.  I don't buy that.  Think of it this way.  Do you really think Brown will be happier without Tatum on the team or with Tatum on the team?  I suspect Brown wants to see the Celtics sign Tatum so the team is better.  Players get discouraged when teams let good players go over money, not when they pay to keep the best players.

No this comes down to one and only one thing.  Do the Celtics think Tatum is worth whatever this Max-Plus or whatever contract that he is eligible for.  I don't think they are going to quibble over 28% of the cap or 30% of the cap.  And I ask if not Tatum, then who the heck are you saving your money for?  This is easy, sign your cornerstone to go with the other cornerstone you signed last year and build around them.  If Brown is in any way upset with this, he is not the player or the person he has shown to be from day 1.

Huh?  Brown knows what he signed, and there is zero doubt Tatum gets the full max.  There is no discussion here.

Why is this even a question smh
He is obviously a max guy. Every single team in the league would've been happy to give him that.

Obviously, give him whatever he wants.

Another topic... does Tatum want to stay in Boston?   I said this in another thread, he kind of gives a Mookie Betts vibe to me sometimes.  I don't know anything,  but has anyone heard if he's interested in leaving?  He's a St. Louis guy, right?

This isn't even a question, DA hands him the biggest contract as soon as he can.
He is a 22 year old ALL-NBA player with tons of room to improve.  Why are we having this conversation again?

We will find out very soon. If he declines signing a max extension, then we have our answer. At that point we would need to begin talking about who we could trade him for. I sure as heck hope that is not the case.

I think Ainge should free Tatum, or Tatum should free himself. Tatum should fire his current agent. Hire Rich Paul or another agent that Silver fears. March up to Ainge to get an adult coach next to Stevens or fire Stevens and get Ainge to stop drafting rookies and give the team some BIGS and a bench. He can do all of that or just take Celtics money and keep quiet while Ainge continues to build for the future with 4 draft picks every year.

Why are we inventing reasons to worry?

No one has EVER turned down a max extension off their rookie deal. It’s literally unprecedented.

Tatum is a restricted free agent.  He's not going anywhere.  Ainge can match any offer.  However it won't get that far.  Ainge should and will offer the 5yr 30% Max contract.

I'm not actually worried about it - just responding to the other poster and letting him know that it will not be a long-drawn out process. We got totally screwed by not being able to give Kyrie an actual max extension the off-season before his contract came up, but the NBA makes it very easy for teams to keep their rookies if they want to.

Idk, but in today's NBA we have friends wanting to form superteams. Maybe he might one day form one with Zion or Ja Morant or even Luka. Don't rule him out of LA as that's where his hero once played.

Kids today are very entitled and like to be spoonfed...not like the old days when guys go through hardwork and determination and wants to win on their own.

Give him the max and hope Ainge can get him some help and win some banners in 2 years to make Tatum a franchise player with Boston.
