I would like to start out with saying that while I haven't been a Celtics fan as long as some people on here, I have been following them for at least 15 years. What boggles my mind is the absolute disrespect and discrediting of the Celtics year in, year out. It's true that they have always thrived in being the underdog, it is still frustrating to see it. Remember the "expert" picks of the 08 Finals winner? Remember how many times Smart go snubbed on All-Defense teams and DPOY? It seems to me that every time we win, the media outside Boston talks about the other team, what they did wrong, their injuries and their future - never about our dominance. Even now, being in the semi finals, I see no talk of us, but every time the Raptors won a game it was all over the news. I also keep seeing a lot of hate from other fanbases, even saying how dislikable we are, when we've had mostly likable and hard-working players that arent dirty. Does anyone have an idea why it's like this?

Here's to hoping they keep proving everybody wrong.

Win, Baby - win.

That is the surefire way to respect.

We've beaten PHI - right after their "Vaunted Size" was supposed to overwhelm us. Swept PHI right out the door.

But they didn't have Simmons, so that is the Media's excuse.

We grinded through TOR - a quality team AND well-coached....but they were without Kawai.

We've got to keep grinding AND winning...playing the game The Celtics Way....TEAM Ball and grit and grind. Do this and get by yet ANOTHER quality team in MIA and we'll start to earn more respect.

Now the ULTIMATE way to respect is beat LAL - if they can get out of the West. Do THAT...beat LeBron...AD...Rajon.....and we'll earn stripes right up there with OTHER Celtics greats.

Such a feat would be HUGE....such a victory effectively slams the door on LeBron getting his 4th ring...and LAL getting their 17th title AND tying US......

But FIRST MIA....they will be a quality opponent.

Hard to comment without knowing what market you are in, and what media outlets you are paying attention to.  That said, I know what you mean about the national media Like TNT.  Boston just hasn’t been ‘sexy’ enough with big superstars in the past 10 years, not since the Pierce/Garnett/Allen teams.

Fine by me though.  You want to be the underdog and prove everybody wrong while flying under the radar.

Those excuses are exactly what I had in mind, but like you said keep grinding and keep winning! A potential LAL Finals showdown looms large.

I'm from Europe, so I mostly just read up on stuff on here and then, just for fun, listen to the talking heads on TNT and ESPN. I love the underdog role, but these guys earned at least a little bit of respect, wouldn't you say?

Gotta say, watching the Raps-Cs series on TNT, they were pretty consistent in saying the Cs were the better team. Stan surprised me the most - he appreciated Lowry’s grit, but also mocked him for complaining constantly about the calls. Heck. Chuck guaranteed a Cs win.

We all know what Chuck's guarantees amount to. Regarding Stan, I noticed him always calling for flagrants on our players when they accidentally hit someone, but when our players got pushed in the air (a very dangerous non-basketball play), he was saying that they barely got touched.

Agreed, and a lot of hype behind Tatum and Brown and Smart's defense/energy.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Combination of our other teams (Pats and Sox) always winning championships and people hating our media and fan base. From what I can tell, people actually find this Cs team pretty likable (unlike last year), they just hate us  ;)

Maybe it's just good old envy, knowing how Danny fleeced some teams and then hit on the lottery picks. They hate us 'cause they ain't us.
