Celtics (1-0) at Raptors (0-1) Round 2 Game 2 9/1/20

This felt like a game we'd normally lose after a mediocre/brutal 3rd. But we hung in there and had a very strong 4th. Smart was obviously the star but others made some huge plays down the stretch too.

C's are in a great spot. Can't let up, but I'd be surprised if Toronto could win the next 4 out of 5. There's no Kawhi and I think Lowry + Siakam are kind of getting exposed. We should be able to take this series. Hopefully we can.

Agreed, I didn't think the Celtics played particularly well, but they still managed to eek it out. This bodes well for us.

the entire time never gives up. it makes it fun to cheer for these guys. they never quit.

The Cs defense has been amazing in this series. We've let Ibaka and Anunoby get loose a little bit and that needs to be cleaned up, but they aren't gonna lead the Raptors to victory anyway. FVV and Lowry have waves of long, athletic, smart defenders coming after them, and when they go to the rim, there are even more. Brown, Smart, and others are dialed in against Siakim and will not let him get comfortable.

One of my favorite past times is reading the forums of teams that we play after we win. Last night, there were a lot of fans saying the series was over, but there were some saying they just needed to make their shots. There may be some truth to that, but the Cs honestly have gotten some decent looks that they missed too. I really think we miss Gordon Hayward on a night like tonight. He is really great at getting some open looks for teammates against tough defenders.

I think the Raptors are a great defense as well. They locked in a bit last night. I hope CBS has a wrinkle or two to generate some more good looks.

Raptors fan trashing their man Pascal ,   not his fault ,   when every eye was watching Kwahi last year , he had alot more open looks and no double teaming .   Now he can't fill KL s shoes ,  Raps fans livid .

Watched on replay and I have a couple of observations:

One big turning point was when Gasol fouled out.  Nurse had to insert Ibaka who is like a statue on defense, just washed up on that end of the floor.  Kemba busted his ankles.

Rob Williams looks confident.  Is he better than Mitchell Robinson?

Grant Williams has earned playoff rotation minutes.  He can cover Siakam.

The Tatum/Siakam comparison is no longer relevant.

I loved Kemba’s comments in the post-game interview about all the shots he’s missed in his career and how he’s learned to not let it rattle him.  MJ said something similar years ago.

Rob has a much better feel for the  game offensively. He does what modern NBA bigs need to do. He swings the ball on the short dives and resets with handoffs quickly to keep the offensive motion going. Theis is great at that as well. Robinson may be a great lob threat, but he has not demonstrated the ability to do those things well yet.

And Robinson isn't even really a better shot blocker. On a per-minute basis he gets less while fouling more. Obviously Robinson plays more, so the sample size might be skewed. Robinson is a better offensive rebounder though worse as a defensive rebounder. The passing difference and the perimeter defence are the two big gaps in Rob's favour
