The Golden State Warriors have been preparing for years to pursue Giannis Antetokounmpo, according to a source. The Warriors similarly planned for multiple years to pursue Kevin Durant as a free agent in 2016.

Antetokounmpo can sign a supermax extension with the Bucks in 2020, or opt for free agency in 2021.

League sources also believe Antetokounmpo would want to leave the Bucks if he loses confidence in the franchise's capacity to win championships. The Bucks had the NBA's best record when the season was suspended in March.

The Warriors' best chance of acquiring Antetokounmpo would likely come through a trade.

ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne said on “The Jump” in September that Golden State has “always been the big threat” to the Bucks in the Antetokounmpo sweepstakes

I thought the Lakers have always been the biggest threat to land Antetokounmpo.

Imagine a Big 3 of LeBron, Davis, and Giannis.

I think it's a no-brainer for me if it's Giannis. You got a proven talent in Giannis already. If it was Tatum for anyone else not named [MVP-caliber] Kevin Durant or Giannis Antetokounmpo, no.

I find it incredibly unlikely that he would be interested in LA. He’s likely to sign the supermax and gut it out in Milwaukee a few more years at least.

I can't see him really leaving, especially for a team like GSW or LAL. I think he's very concerned with being competitive, and isn't really interested in taking the cowardly out.

That being said, I think the one actual threat to poach him is Dallas. They actually will have cap space when Giannis is a free agent, so they can get him without a trade. All the possible trades for Giannis involving these teams are heavily lopsided against Milwaukee, and considering how much AD and Paul George got their teams in return I can't see anything happening trade wise from GSW or LAL. Especially LAL, considering they already shipped all their assets.

Him on Dallas would be like Kobe & Shaq all over again IMO

It's pretty clearly not tampering as much as it is offseason chatter escalated in the advent of a very early offseason. It's pretty clear that there are 30 NBA teams who are interested in signing Giannis to his next contract

i've read a rumor/idea bout 3 first round picks + wiggins + extras ......

i think almost every team can offer something better.... Wiggins by himself is a reason not to accept this offer !

Exactly. Wiggins, 3 x #30 picks, and some poor prospects. Eric Paschall is their best draft piece, lol.

Complete non-story from a GSW beat writer, with no actual basis.

It's like for the last couple of years Wiggins has been considered one of the worst contracts in the NBA, but now that he is on GSW, he is some kind of asset? Wouldn't the Wolves have just moved Wiggins for Giannis if they could? This has to be a complete non-story as other teams (including the Cs with Tatum...or even Brown) could demolish that offer. MIL would have to specifically want Giannis to play for GSW - which obviously makes no sense.

I figured OKC with like 20 first round picks might trade ,  6 -8 first rounders for him and another 4 for KAT and destroy the Lakers

I believe the report, and I expect GS to go all out after him, BUT, the Celtics were preparing for years for AD, and how did that turn out?

Lots of teams will be after Giannis , nobody has a clear advantage at the moment. Also, Giannis is a loyal guy, has often expressed his loyalty to the Bucks, and the Bucks are a legit contender several years in a row now. It's not like he's stuck on a mediocre team like the Pelicans.

Agreed, moreover Giannis has more or less said he fully intends to stay with the Bucks. It makes sense for teams to do their due diligence, but I think it's a long shot unless the Bucks fall apart.

Yeah if that’s a possibility, he’s not getting traded to the Warriors. Just about every team in the league can offer (what would surmount to) better picks and a more impactful/better max-ish player than Wiggins.

Of course Giannis could complicate things a la Davis by saying he won’t resign anywhere except ______, but he hasn’t indicated he’s that type of guy. He’s kind of a throwback, the one that wants to earn his way to the top and beat the competition to prove he’s the best.

It would be better for basketball if he stays in Milwaukee, IMO.

Yeah, is there a team that doesn't want Giannis? Everyone will be after him.
