Development and draft vs vets

The development of Smart ,Brown and Tatum with the progression of Semi ,R Williams, G Williams, Romeo has the feeling of a homegrown team .The high draft picks have gained valuable playoff experience
.The  mix of free agents brought in have made valuable contributions and even the Kyrie experiment taught our up and coming young guys a valuable lesson while spawning the new team atmosphere.

  As a fan, I have enjoyed the development and drafting, even the staying put with the present team .The  rescue of Kemba from Charotte and the reuniting of Hayward and Brad and the past stability that Al Horford exhibited ,as the break the ice free agent choosing Boston. Winning Banner 18 the ultimate goal but winning it by playing Celtics team basketball.This is the object lesson of Kyrie Irving

.Back to draft. There are several draft and stash young European players.

Why draft a beanpole ,when you can get Bender years along or Frank Ntilikina with length or Dennis Smith Jr. a blur. These are still very young kids brought into chaotic systems These are just examples without any due diligence as the work ethic and character.
Danny has done well with Theis, Morris,Thomas. Maybe now it could be Aaron Gordon or Bobby Portis.
Lauri Markkanen or Chris Dunn from Chicago.

We are starting to have redundancy in Semi and Williams. Although Semi is as strong, shoots the three better and has lateral quickness and vertical he has no length. Semi is just coming into his own while Williams BBIQ and defensive understanding with a improving 3 point shot was impressive for a rookie tweener.
Edwards was a disappointment but a rookie small guard and shooter has a lot of adjustments to make coming in cold against NBA ,size and speed and  play defence. This can eat away at confidence of a  rookie shooter.
At what point does a talent and the timing appraisal start on the rookies and remember Green is a rookie.
At what point does the pruning process begin  or stashing the coming draft overseas.?

This draft may be weak at top but with shortened season with no NCAA's, no Combine and no try outs this could favour Celtics.

We have seen the growth of Marcus from passing to shooting the three , We have witnesses the growth in Browns shooting and ball handling and Jason exploding to the verge of superstar and the work and results of Hayward and Kemba Walkers smooth transition. The elevation of Theis game and flashes of growth from Rob Williams.

So what next? Reposition in draft, stash some young euros ,trade for young vets, look for older vets on minimum?

they need an upgrade at big, and another shooter.  Maybe in one player.  Maybe 2 players.

Always felt 5 guys on rookie deals was the max youth you want on a roster at least if you are focused on winning. C's definitely have too many young guys and hopefully next year Danny consolidates assets and moves a few young guys for one of two championship pieces.

I agree watching a team with self developed prospects is the most rewarding type of team in the NBA.

In terms of roster construction I feel Ainge is at a point where some minor roster consolidation is needed and a least a 1 year injection of a vet shooter is needed off the bench.

Porier needs to be cleared off the roster

Wanamaker is likely a roster casualty and I expect Romeo earns his minutes and Smart sees more PG min

Semi is likely to find minutes hard to come by again and should probably be traded in the offseason. I would consider using him and the Cs own pick to target a player early then #17. Maybe Hampton or Maxey if they are available in the 12-15 range?

Edwards I could be another player worked into a trade. Either that or he will be in a summer league/training camp battle for his Celtics like with Waters

For me it's not a development vs vets question. The ratio vets/bigs composing the team will evolve with where Ainge think we are to maximise the multiple titles shots we will have the 8-10 next year or so.

We have of course to continue to develop our young stars, backups and long shot prospects. More the team become mature, the time will pass, more we have to complete with good cheap vets who come for a ring. Brad have also the ability to developp (and Aigne to find) role players in late 1st round draft.It will be essential with our cap during the next 10 years...
Right now we still have time to look at the development of RWill, GWill, Langford... All probably correc to good team player with moore defensive roles. Maybe Langford could progress off... Not sold that  Edwards and/or Waters couldn't become usefull role bench players. Even Tacko... So it's a long list. But some will fail or be hurt...

I guess maybe even next year with just one impact role player who knows the way to win a champ's could be enough. Maybe with the addition of one cheap vet who come for a ring.
I mean this team is for me a ring contender next year, 2d or 3d favorite allready next year and co-favorite of the east. I even prefer our situation as the Bucks one as we have more potential to progress and we are not 100% sure Giannis stays. Philly had the best position to win but the managment was not Ainge quality there and now they have problems we don't have.

So in my opinion, keep 2 of the 3 next year draft pick could be smart. It gives us 2-4 years cost controll players to developp. In 4 years JT,JB and MS are at there top... Some other youngs will be experimented young base. We hope we find one futur good role player with 17 or 30 and trade the 26 with other small assets for a good scoring vet from the bench, ideally who knows the way... Ideally a Derick Rose for me...

I think its a tricky question because it depends on who you can get.  Sure saying get Rose is great but it is not a unilateral choice  to get Rose.  We can't just make anything happen.  A lot of people wanted Tyler Herro, who turned out to be the real deal.  He wet a pick before ours so we couldn't pick him.  But what if we could?  He would have been better than much of what we could have picked up for the veteran minimum.  When we picked Edwards, I had visions of the NCAA tournament and thought he was ready to be our back up point guard.  I was ready to be done with Wannamaker, but it turned out Edwards is not ready and Wannamaker was much better this year.  In that case the veteran was better.  But then Grant Williams did  as well or better a job than some veteran journeymen would have been able to get.  But than Clarke looked better than Williams.  But that is still a rookie in our draft range.     

When you're drafting before free agency you don't know who you can really get so you try and fill holes in the draft as best you can.  I wouldn't be surprised to see Danny use all 3 first round picks and the second rounder.  At the same time I could see him trading one or two of those picks out of the draft for a pick or two next year.   The draft and stash hasn't worked well for us so I'm thinking he doesn't do that again. 

I'm ok with Wannamaker.  He knows his role, does it well enough and doesn't mess with team chemistry.  Rose was a league MVP.  He wants to be a star again.  So will he be ok being behind Kemba and Smart when Kemba has a 1 for 12 first half or Smart has one of his just dreadful shooting nights?  I think we have our pecking order solidly in place for the 1-3 spot.  I'm not willing to give up on the potential of Langford to get a guy of even JJ Redicks quality.  Any guard or wing we get will have to know they are 3 or 4 on the depth chart and the good ones wont want that.  We need help in the 4 & 5 spot.  I think there is room there to bring in a guy who can start or move to the starting role.  Good big men are more rare then wings and guards so they cost more.  It is  going to be hard to get one of those bigs who can come in and start or play significant minutes.  Kanter was literally the best of the bunch within our price range and he had nights he played less than 10 minutes because his defense was so bad. 

We don't have the cap space to over pay for a top line free agent, se we have to trade and we don't want to give up our really good players.  To make a trade for a guy like Lauri Markkanen who could easily be our starting 4 and push Hayward too the bench to make a stronger second unit, Danny would have to job the Bulls into believing in the potential greatness of Carson Edwards and his cheap as dirt contract, along with Grant Williams and possibly Rob Williams as well.   

Realistically, I think if we are gong to get better at the 4 and 5 spot we need to hit dead on in the draft and/or both our Williams need to set up big time next year.

Jaylen has made a huge leap in his ballhandling that now allows him to change speeds and direction .this also has opened up his passing.

Jason and Drew have fixed his scoring through contact and he seems a bit stronger. These guys get all the ink,Theis has developed and Semmi is on the cusp now..

 Back to Jaylen that couldn't shoot with ball handling that couldn't keep up with his speed  andstruggled finishing and at foul line. NOT NOW.

Grant was all over the place defensively at first. I think that by next season his outside shooting will take a large jump as his foul shooting and stroke look good.

Give Romeo a summer  working with a shooting coach  and on ballhandling skills with drills on finishing, along with weight training.

Casen Edwards had high expectations but short guys playing defence and switching is a lot to learn and then be an effective scorer. Then all the other stuff travel, pressure , coming off the bench cold and getting shipped to Maine.
Javonte Green another rookie to the NBA .If he can add to his game with shooting coach and work on ballhandling and defensive awareness-Why can't he add to his game.

,I would like a a tall point guard that plays defence I guess that is Marcus. Another couldn't shoot or get to the basket as a rookie no burst ,no elevation with his long painful recovery from an high ankle sprain. Nobody wanted to see that hobbled him..
Chris Dunn or Frank Ntilikina for instance. both fit time frame.
