Quite literally the stupidest reach in foul I might have ever seen.

Ah well, hopefully we can beat up Cleveland (unless Drummond kills us)
It's a "you deserve to be benched for the next game" kind of bad play.
For someone who didn’t see the game, who made the foul?

Marcus Smart.

To be fair, it seemed like LeVert was in the act of passing the ball and not shooting it.
Just watch the replay.  Lots of fans complain when we don’t foul in that situation.  That’s the risk of fouling.

I've watched the replay plenty of times, I don't see where LeVert was even in the shooting motion..

But oh well, it is just another game! ON TO THE NEXT!

People shouldn't be making that argument with that little time left on the clock. No way to safely make that foul before they start their motion.

To Brad's credit (yuck), though, he said they weren't trying to foul there, and it seems like it was just a dumb decision by Smart.

Brad said that Smart wasn't supposed to be involved in the play anyways. Williams & Theis were supposed to basically make it tough for him to take that shot.

With that little time left on the clock, you only foul when the opponent has his back from the rim and on the catch. If they inbound well you avoid the foul and keep your hands up. Theis was also close to getting called for a foul there, he jumped up instead of just putting his hands up.

Lets not sugarcoat it.  Horrible mind fart by Smart that basically cost us the game.  We knew we had injury problems and no way we were winning in overtime if it came to that.

You just can't grab the arm of a three point shooter.  Yeah he wasn't really into his shooting motion yet, but when has that stopped refs from making bad calls against us in that situation.  You have to just put your hands straight up and hope he misses.

Of course Smart is great player, and the heart and soul of the team.  He will make amends for it before the end of the season.  But that was our most clutch player making one of the dumbest plays I have seen in a long time.

Draymond Green has done the same, and he's been a key to their success.

Let's hope Smart wises up, and leads by example instead of these terrible brain farts tonight.

Marcus plays the game with a lot of passion. I think the blood was rushing and that's when he tends to make crazy plays from questionable decisions, you know those high risk plays where he looks like a hero when it comes off and an idiot when it doesn't. On this occasion it didn't.

To me the loss just reiterates how weak our bench depth is and what a mistake it was for Danny to not address that glaring hole during the deadline.

Did you see who was playing for us in OT? Simply embarrassing.

Of course Smart is great player

I think he is a great defender and a unique player but great player?   I think that is a stretch.   Everyone makes a mistake once in a while on the court, he makes more winning than bad plays.

Defense is never good when you let a guy score 51

if we could get healthy hopefully hes not on the court when the game is on the line.this is not the first time hes done dumb Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline. like this.brad needs to grow a set and bench him for a game if the nba doesn't .his actions after the game warrants not playing a game

Depends on what you think is a great player. Smart has a very strong argument as a top 40 player this season (as well as last year tbh), to me that's a a very good player who can be great in the right situation that maximises his situational value.

This was not a "brain fart". This was hero ball, pure and simple.

Unreal that Steven's waived the white flag on this game because of a back to back. He should've made them play the OT. You don't give away games. I keep telling folks Stevens doesn't have killer instinct. This game should be over and it's not just Smarts fault.

Stop saving timeouts when teams go on runs. Worry about the timeouts later..he doesn't know when to stop a run

Exactly.

If Brad had a killer instinct, he totally would have cleaned up in N.H. after taking Iowa.

It appears Smart will never learn. This is not the first time he has made a dumb foul at the end of a game. There has been numerous cases of him doing it.

While I love what he brings to the table, he doesn't always play very smart. Playing with emotion is one thing, but he goes too far, IMO. Not sure if you stuck around, but he went after one of the refs after the game. Had to be restrained. I'm guessing he might get suspended for that. That's certainly not helpful to the team, especially with all the injuries they have.

I truly hope he learns from this, but thinking he won't.
